JCW NM Module in a JCW
Vetsvette an ex fellow wing wiper is the one responsible for my decision and he was right. It does seem to have more zip. I am not going to dyno it until after I have the new JCW Pro Exhaust installed as well. I am expecting somewhere between 40-50 HP gain + torque. That will be suitable for me as I don't want to risk damaging the drive train. The B48 is capable of 300 HP with no adverse effects, but I am not so sure about the mini drive train.

I just found out a shop locally has a Dyno Jet and charges $100 per hour or 3 pulls for $50. Didn't sound to knowledgeable about denoting Minis though with an Auto. Is there anything that needs to be done to do a proper dyne? I thought I remembered a while back that there is a hidden computer program or something to activate the dyne mode in the minis. Would be nice to get a base line then get one with the exhaust and power module.
Tested on Supersprint dyno (just front rollers).
Here's how we did it.
Initially we had trouble (engine was cutting power).
The issue was that the car was tested once without activating the dyno mode.
We drove it a bit on the road to make the errors disappear then we did it like this:
1) Press the ignition lever once to turn the dash on
2) immediately keep the odometer reset button pressed for 15 seconds. The hidden menu will appear
3) press the button twice to go into "roller test"
4) keep the button pressed 3 seconds to activate it. You'll see a orange triangle then the start stop and DSC icons slashed
5) turn on the car and leave it on
6) put it on the dyno and set it up to be tested (OBDII plug etc)
7) activate the sport mode with the gearleve ring
8) launch
OK found it from a previous discussion board. Will have to write this one down. I assume you need to put it in forth gear or is it fifth gear for the pull?

Not sure if it is, but I do have the auto so at least it should work for my application. Maybe a manual doesn't need anything.
Plus, received the power module in last night and I'm quite happy! Install was fairly easy, only issue was getting the connector free of the car to connect the module. Once that was done, a few black zip ties later and installation was done. Kept it at factory low setting for now. Quality seems really good. Packaging was nice, and surprised by the weight of the module. Felt good, like a quality product. My wife's 2011 R56 has burgertune's module and that is light with a plastic case. From the quote in Jurassic Park, "is it heavy, yes, then it's expensive", lol. Results were quite noticeable. Barely hit the throttle and power is there. Getting on the on ramp on the highway this morning produces mild wheel and a little torque steer, but nothing as bad as my former tuned 2010 R56. Really nice push back in the seat acceleration. Feels now like what the JCW should have been all along to really differentiate itself from the Cooper S and justify the price difference. Now those Big Brembos will get some work! Will be nice to take it back to VIR and see how much fast I can go on the back and front straight. So far I've only managed 127 MPH before hitting the brakes on the back straight.

After I put on the exhaust either tonight or tomorrow I'll change settings to see if I can see a difference. Right now, the power module on low setting really makes for a boost in stop light to stop light power as well as on ramp speed. Throttle response seems to be instant with a great big grin on my face. Usually I hit 103 mph coming off the on ramp for fun sometimes, now I'm hitting that much sooner, about 3/4 the way down the ramp now!
OK, here it is. This is copied and pasted with some editing from other threads.
I just returned from the North Carolina and Tennessee mountains and a plethora of hard runs in the twisties including, but not limited to three very hard runs on the Tail of the Dragon. There was very little traffic this time of year and all of the drivers we encountered who were normal pulled over to let us pass and I thanked them. Anyway, these were fast and hard runs in very technical turns that are some of the best anywhere. The car performed flawlessly at high speed with minimal drift, sway, and yaw and was a pleasure to drive. No one we encountered was able to stay with us on any of the passes. I drove two of them and my wife one. There were some modded Subarus that we didn't hook up with, but I would have liked to as they are great little performers. Mazdas, one Lexus sports car and some others were unable to stay with us on any of the runs. Alas, there were no other minis on the Tail while we were there. Some Ninja bikes were burning up the road and they smoked everyone! I think they are bent on exiting the gene pool! We were running with the original runflats with the NM module and the JCW PRO exhaust and I think somewhere in the 270 HP range from my butt dyno, but I hope to have a real deal dyno soon and some Michelin Pilot Super Sport shoes on the toy before MOTD and the season really begin.

Sounds like a nice trip!! Have only been to the dragon once so far with Mini Takes The States 4 years ago, it's about 4ish hours from my house in Winston Salem. I still have my winter tires on my JCW, but soon will switch back to the OEM Dunlops, and then when they are gone, I'll be picking up the Super Sports like you mentioned. They are fabulous tires. Used them on my 2010 S at VIR a lot with no fade, these OEM tires seem to give up grip after the Oak Tree turn from over heating I'd guess. Maybe by this summer, Michelin will come out with a new Pilot tire that's even better!!
It was a great trip, thanks! I had the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3s on my R56 JCW and they were great for everyday driving and decent enough for competitive and spirited twisties, however, with the increased weight, power, and torque of the F I figured they would be lacking. I also put them on the C7 to replace the run flats that it came equipped with, but the corvette is seriously too much power and torque for the A/S 3's. It produces monstrous power and torque and it is a tail happy car anyway, so the Pilot Super Sports are going on it too. The Dunlops are an OK tire for what they are and if you don't push the limits they are decent enough, but they do have a rough, noisy ride regardless as do most run flats I have had in the past. I carry a VIAIR 12V compressor, a Dynaplug kit, and a large can of aerosol Slime as well in both cars. I am willing to toast a sensor rather than sit and wait for roadside assistance in the middle of nowhere or on a busy highway.
Sounds like some real fun on the dragon.

Oh yeah, the adrenaline rush lasted for a good while after it was all over and I didn't have enough left for another run. It was a darn near perfect day and I hope I can still recall it when senility sets and hopefully that is a long way off! North Carolina seems to be the perfect state for crazy mini drivers. We will be back for the MOTD, but with all the minis and regular traffic the Tail and the other good runs will be too overcrowded to be able to make truly "spirited runs". I sure want to try it again on a day like that one with some good sticky tires.
Just watch at the bottom of the hill at the very end ( near the lake ), you come off hot and people like to park down there and near the street. It can get pretty crowed at MOTD and who ever else is there that week, bike clubs, car clubs...etc

Thanks, we love the area and have been driving up for years and there are some other runs that we actually prefer more than the Tail that our Tarheel buddies showed us. We ran it in our R56 a lot and once in the corvette, but for technical twisties with switchbacks the mini is a much better vehicle and more fun.
Yep, big heavy cars sometimes get bitten by the dragon.
You must have also went down the back way into that small town, near the falls. Fun drive.

Yes, we have been running the area since 2009, our first run was in a MB CLK 55 AMG. Way too much power and car for the Tail, but it was still fun, burnt up the rear tires on it early one fall morning when there were no other cars to be seen. Those rare moments are the best.

I have been checking with different garages to test the mini on their dynamometers and the going price seems to be $100 for three pulls. I think I will schedule two separate two pulls, one with the exhaust open and one with it closed in order to determine exactly how much horsepower the PRO exhaust produces. They are booked for three weeks so it will be awhile before I can get it done.
I put it on yesterday morning. The fit and finish were spot on, everything went together perfectly. Only hard thing about the install was getting those two rear rubber muffler hangers to let go, even with lubricant. Think it took me and additional 30 minutes for install for just do those! Going back together was much easier! Everything slid into place, torqued to spec and whamo, a nice new shiny exhaust! Started it up and thought, holy crap this is loud! Then it settled down and was quieter than my stock exhaust I think. Driving at 45-52, 62-68, super quiet as stock, I can't believe it. They said it would be basically drone free with the Automatic tranny and they were right. But as soon as you give it gas, WOW. Super grins and all the pops and burbles that I myself love!. Took it to my friends at the dealership to show them and they were very impressed. Said I should take it too the dragon for the exhaust sound off to try to win it this spring, lol. It just seems to me, even without a muffler, the perfect exhaust. Very quiet when driving normally, no need to turn up the radio, but again, when you punch it to pass someone or get on the onramp, all hell breaks loose and I think it's a more fitting exhaust for the already bonkers JCW. It's raining today, but would like to get some video to show the sound off.
Plus I did measure the stock JCW exhaust and it is 2.75" diameter mostly, but it is flattened down to 2.5" just past the support brace compared to 2.5" all of the way for AWE tuning exhaust.

Yes, started 1990 in the USMC working on helicopters, then received my A&P out of college in 1999 and worked mainly on corporate aircraft from Lears to King Airs. Now I work for Cessna Citation in Greensboro NC.
