I have a DDM on my R53 and love it.

Might want to post in the second gen forum for responses pertaining more to your R56.

Happy Motoring.

I don't know much about 2nd gen minis but is my understanding that they have different engines depending on the year, N14,N18 etc.. I think that's how it goes but I'm not 100% sure :-)

The one on the left is for the turbo engine (Cooper S) while the one on the right is for the N/A engine (Cooper).

I have a 2011 JCW and I run a NM and think it is great. I also had a DDM Street and that was good also.

I guess personal research is dead. Just asking for answers seems to be the norm. Oh well..., I'll help. Cold air intakes do what they say... provide cold (cooler) air for the engine. Your intake from the factory actually does this via a snorkel tube drawing air from the front of the car. There are two types of aftermarket "cold" air intakes, those that suck cold air from outside of the engine compartment and those that suck hot air from inside. There are only 3 real cold air intakes that I know about for the Mini: DDM Race (not Street) Intake, AEM, and DoS version one and DoS version two. That's it... period. The rest, including the NM (a company I love, see mod list below) draw hot air from the engine bay. Personally I like the DoS intake. It draws in cold air from behind the firewall as well as using the factory snorkel. If Clint (owner of DoS) had a trade-in-program, I'd upgrade to his version 2. If you insist on an open hot air sucking intake, at least pull the plug on your hood scoop so some cold air might get into the engine compartment. I'd recommend a grill to keep crap out.

I'm happy with my mods. I spent many an hour studying and learning before I made my decisions. The effort made me appreciate the outcome all that much more.

I pulled the plug from the fake scoop on my JCW and installed a DDM race setup. Money well spent because it pumps cold air into your intake.
