JCW Price Negotiation on JCW
Price Negotiation on JCW
Is it almot impossible to negotiate the prices on JCW?
I was hoping the build one and make special order,
but every dealers told me that slot is closed and won't be any open in August.
They also mentioned that they are even sure if there will be any opening in September.
So I think I'm going to have to search on the dealers to find the I want and I kind of did.
But I was only able to negotiate the price for $700.
Is it pretty normal for JCW?
Almost impossible to negotiate the price?
I ways always able to get more than 2000 on the new vehicles,
Can you tell me how much you were able to lower the price from the MSRP? and was it special order? or stock from the dealer?

There doesn't typically seem to be a lot of negotiating on these cars. I bought mine in SC from a dealer lot in FL. I did get the dealer to eat the shipping charges.
My previous Mini was purchased at the end of December and there was a $6000 rebate at the time. That was a pretty easy negotiation.
You might get lucky with an end of year rebate but you risk having nothing to choose from.

We went to two different Mini dealers. both told us NO discount for a special ordered JCW. Both told us that they are generally more expensive cars, and if a customer backs out on a special order JCW it would become very hard for them to sell.
Maybe it's an Ohio thing that dealers here don't order JCW's for their inventory without customer orders because I have read here about many people testing driving JCW's before ordering one which just blows me away...dealers here wouldn't dream of ordering a JCW w/o a customer order.
In both cases we walked out the door and the dealers, who were both very nice folks said, "please let us know if you change your mind"....so we ended up ordering our JCW at MSRP.....
First time I have ever paid MSRP for a new car out of the 20 or so I have owned....

I probably saved some $$ by buying out of dealer stock because the car was missing some options I'd have gotten if I ordered it. Turns out I don't really miss them...
I got $700 off on my JCW which I ordered. Ordering and waiting really sucks... They were running a special $700 take down event last year at this time.

Where are you located? When I was searching for the car to take the slot from other dealer for my own, there was total of four in process. One of them is in Texas and two in CA and one in east coast area. Texas one was in production already and other three were not. Salesmen said it will take at least 1-2 weeka for other three cars to be in production. One of them could be yours and I guess you made the good deal. I will try to get something similar to yours.
Spoke to my sales manager and found this interesting. He doesn't like to order JCW's for inventory and has no plans to. Not because he doesn't like them, but because 1. They are pretty expensive and 2. JCW buyers are pretty particular on how they want the car configured.
He has gotten bitten more than once with unique configurations that took over 12 months to get sold. Whereas he can move a base cooper or S in less than 50 days.

Frankly, I would not want to buy a JCW off the lot for fear that one or several folks had taken demo/joy rides before me and redlined the motor, doubleshifted the entire route, and trail-braked around every corner.
Now, if the odo reads 5 miles or so when I pick it up today, there is no guarantee that the guys driving it off the RoRo or the dealer prep folks didn't have some fun, but I think I stand a better chance

).I'm in SoCal, and awaiting confirmation of build/scheduling. Dealer said it will hit soon (early Aug), or be delayed a couple of weeks.
BTW, to the point of this thread, I went through Costco Car Buy program.
Hard to figure out the exact savings, but it's about $1250 off MSRP. Each Dealer works a separate deal with Costco (normally some fixed price over invoice), but it saved the hassle as the pricing is pre-negotiated.
Just playing the waiting game for now.
Hopefully one of those is going to be mine (well the wife's!

It's very difficult to get a discount on a custom ordered car. Simply the way the books work, and they have no motivation really to cut a deal on something that hasn't caused them any financial pain of keeping it on the lot.
Question, though - what exactly is 'doubleshifting'? That's a new one on me...
couple of things...we picked up our car last night and after all my blah blah about wanting to keep unwanted, unknown mileage down by building a car....it had 10 miles on it last night when we picked it up
I can just see some Austrian dude with his hair on fire, burning up the pavement in my car driving it from the factory down to the boat dock...!double shifting, also called double clutching. It's an old fashioned drive technique whereby you press the clutch, shift to neutral, release clutch, blip the throttle, press clutch shift into lower gear and release....it was used years ago before synchros were added to transmissions so I was told when I was younger....nowadays you just heel-toe to get the same effect....
the danger of it is that when down shifting, the rev limiter is not active, so some yahoo trying it for the first time doesn't blip the throttle properly(or not at all) and bang......call the motor doctor

I don't know if anyone out there actually even tries this technique anymore, but it's something I always throw out when I have a concern about engine or transmission abuse.....

2013 JCW HT, fully decked out minus a few of the performance options. Got 3500$ off mrsp, but our canadian prices start so frickin high, it's probably just making it a decent price.
It was a special order mini as I was busting my mini cherry and had some very specific requirements. Had 3 dealership fighting over my order... I cant blame them as it was like selling 2.5 justas at once! Hehehe

I'm really surprised at the prices I'm seeing here for a JCW. I would never offer more than $500 over invoice - and maybe expect to pay up to $1,000 over invoice.
At dealers who say they're nervous about eating a special-order car (which IMHO is a crock), you can do some things to make the deal more "solid," like:
1. Put down a larger-than-normal deposit, say 30-35 percent - especially if you're paying cash for the car.
2. Give your trade-in to the dealer when you make the deal, so you have a large amount af equity in the deal - and borrow a car or drive a beater for 6 or 8 weeks.
3. Get approved for the car loan as part of the negotiation process. If you have good credit, this will take maybe 5 minutes.
Does any of this work? Check my sig.

Our 2010 JCW R57 we got about $700 above invoice and 2013 JCW R59 we got about $500 above invoice off cars on the lot. The R57 had about 50 miles on it and had been there about 6 months, the R59 was fresh off the truck and had 11. I negotiated both with 1% lower interest rate. It was way easier to do that than get the sticker price down. I asked finance guy on both and it took him about 30 seconds to say yes (maybe I should have asked for even lower?).
Same thing happened to me last year. I tried to order in May, but they were out of slots all across the country. I had to wait until August, but that actually benefited me since the 2013s came with Bluetooth as opposed to one year of Sirius and I got to attend the Motor-Tober event.
Try to email dealers all across the country to see what they offer and then see if your local dealer will match. If they won't match, see how much the delivery would be for the other dealer. I ended up getting mine below invoice after the $750 voucher from the Motor-Tober event. Mine was a build, not off the lot.

They didn't want to deal very much....'we dont have holdbacks, jcw special' etc.... - was already 500 less than msrp, got them down $100 more and they had the car tinted for me for free. I also had them take off the $260 Phantom theft thing...
