JCW or Cooper S?

Newbie question here....

At my local dealer a JCW is 10k more than a Cooper S.

Would it be better to buy a Cooper S and add on JCW or other upgrades over time or spend the extra 10K upfront?

Can you upgrade a MCS to a JCW performance?

Side note/question..... Does it matter if you purchase a MCS or a Convertible Cooper S..... as far a performance goes?

Thx!

Jack,

It would depend on all the extras that the JCW has at your dealer.

What year is the JCW?

You can upgrade to a certain point, but it will still never be an original JCW.

I thought about purchasing the MCS but thought to myself, yes it is cheaper, but it will always be bugging me in the long run I could had bought a JCW.

^^^ Agreed I drove both the MCS and JCW ... I just ordered a JCW as I am coming from an STI. The JCW is that next notch up ... If you can afford the JCW ... I totally agree with 'Ghost's' statement ... it will bug you in the long run ...

It's a 2011.... I looked around at 3 other dealers to.

Hendrick MINI of Charlotte is the only one with a JCW (luckily this is where I live) near me.

I might have to order one? Not crazy about the red roof.

I have a MCS and love it! But it is on lease, so I can't/won't make any changes to it. I do love it enough that I am considering trading it back in with my 2010 Harley and making 2 payments go into 1 JCW payment.

Thx for the advise.

So it does sound like you guys are saying "I can upgrade" but it's still never the same as the real deal..... at least in my mind.

I am trading my '08 STI ... I really like my STI ... BEST CAR EVER OWNED! STI has great utility being a hatch and the fact the back seats fold down. I am making the switch because STI has 40k on the horizon. I want to get as much trade value as possible. I did not want to get the same car. For me getting a new car is just that ... a new car ... not replacing what you have ... I feel the clubman mirrors the STI the best ...

Sounds good, I'm still on the fence I had a 06 and I'm interested in a STI new hatch or JCW Hardtop. I don't plan on buying anytime soon so that'll give me ample time to make my decision...

Man, I was just at Hendricks last week and LOVE that JCW, the red roof looks great. IF you can afford it, go for it.

it depends on if you want to keep your warranty. you can get an MCS and mod it to be faster than a JCW for way under 10k but then you won't have a warranty, which you really need with MINI.
I would go a JCW which you will be happier with the speed of stright out of the box and while you have a warranty. then when your warranty goes, mod the JCW and it will kill a modded MCS.

JCW, I wish I had one, want one to but cannot justify trading in a MCS I owe $14k on to buy the $36k JCW. Maybe the next car.

My first is an S cabrio I bought new with a $6k rebate. Yes I like it and if I fit in the 2012 coupe I will order a JCW version - though that may be the only option...

If you are going to buy new, I would say wait on the 2012's and then I think its more value added to get the JCW now, esp since the aero kit will come standard.
Cause an MCS with JCW appearance kit and JCW tuning it (assuming you want to keep warranty) is another ~$5k to get close to waht the JCW comes with, but still isnt' quite there yet.
The factory JCW will still come with more power, big brakes (looks awesome to have the big red calipers), better clutch, tranny, pistons, and single cat. And its got more exclusivity. And you can just tell people its a JCW, instead of having to go through and explain waht an MCS with JCW tune kit, etc is. I tell people about the MCS JCW, and they always need an explanation of what an MCS JCW is.
