Upgrading a factory JCW

I just purchased a 2009 Clubman JCW. It seems to have plenty of power and handles well. Though, in the pursuit of making things even better, I was curious what upgrades you guys are doing to them and how satisfied are you with any changes you have made. Thanks....

What I have always believed that a MINI should come with, JCW or not, is more front camber (fixed or adjustable plates up), and more suspension travel, in the form of either coilovers or new shocks (increased stiffness makes the already-little amount of travel large enough). The R56s really benefit from lowering as well apparently. Bump/torque steer is greatly reduced.

If you have the money, the JCW could do with a new front differential. The stock EDLC is absolute CRAP.

An RMW tune should also transform the car.

upgraded to TSW springs, TSW 19mm rear sway, and Vorslag adj camber plates here and love it. Also added a DoS CAI and I dont really notice a power difference but it sounds and looks cool. Waiting on my new Helix IC from the group guy now...that should really make a big difference at the next track day

According to their website, Texas Speed Werks is being sold. Does not look like you can buy any parts.

Significant mods:
- Helix Intercooler
- RMW tune
- DoS intake
- JCW suspemsion
- replacing run flats
- replacing torque arm insert and Craven Speed short shifter. This makes the gear shifter much more notchy and easier to shift.

Check out signature for the rest.

JCW Mods

I went with the the JCW suspension, JCW front strut brace, and 215/45/17 non-run flat tires to improve the handling. It's a mild drop in height with more stiffness than the ss+ suspension. It's a nice compromise between comfort and performance for daily commuting.

However, if you are serious about taking the car on track, then coil overs are the way to go.

I agree with another post that thinks the EDLC is junk, and I prefer to ride in DTC mode most of the time to cut back on torque steer.

I would higly recommend a short shift kit from Helix Motor Sports in Philly. Coupled with the JCW carbon fiber shifter, it really sharpens up the throw.

Now that I have the suspension where I want it, my next mod is a larger intercooler, with an ECU remap.

Good luck.

How much of a drop does the JCW Suspension give you? Is it one inch? Or more? Also do you still have a wheel gap? Post some pictures. Thanks.

~1/2"

The JCW suspensions isn't really for lowering you MINI.

JCW drop

Here's a photo of the drop with the JCW suspension. If I stick my fingers between the tire and the wheel well I can get two fingers in between. With a stock suspension its a three finger gap.

I have to say that I'm very satisfied with the JCW suspension. It cuts down on body roll, keeps the front end from diving on hard braking, reduces torque steer, presents a uniform wheel well gap around the tire, doesn't jar me to death on city streets, and best of all, it's under warranty to 50k on the odometer.

The bad news, it costs me $2,200 installed, parts, labor, and tax. You could get a coil over kit for that much if you want to go that route.

I have a JCW CAB 09. All I've done is add the strut brace so far but I know that something needs to be done about the suspension because currently I find my ride too bouncy for my taste.
I have the convertible which doesn't allow for the JCW suspension but I'm wondering what other options I might have. Can the sport suspension be added on after the factory?
I also want the RMW tune but last time I was in California I had a hard time getting a hold of Jan. I also want the new JCW full body kit which I finally got see last week and it looked fine.

sport suspension

I know you can get you can get the sport suspension (non JCW) put on a MCS by the dealer. I'm not sure if it fits the vert.

BTW - The sport suspension does not lower the car, only stiffens up the ride.

Just get yourself some good adjustable coilovers. Do it right the first time and be done with it.
