JCW Aero Kit - can you offer opinion re: price points?

JCW Aero Kit total price for part + installation + paint + everything

here are the prices i have so far:

Port Installation - 2600.00 (total)

Dealer #1 - 3604 (parts) + 660 (labour) ROFLMAO! guy must think i was born yesterday. If anyone thinks I'm b.s.-ing I will be happy to post the estimate.

Dealer #2 - 1795.00 (parts) + 1300 (labour + paint + etc.)

Dealer #3 (Morristown) - 1508 (parts) + 675 (labour). I question this quote however because the person over the phone said "yes this includes paint and everything." however... the 1508 price on the parts website from miniusa.com says "paint and extra installation parts not included." WTF?

in any case.... it seems to me the port installation may be the most reliable way as well as the cheapest. i find it difficult to believe that morristown would do it cheaper than port... 675 sounds like just labour...no paint, and no ther installation part costs to factor in.

any thoughts?

I had mine done in port and have been very happy with it. You know what you will get with them, and if you're financing, if its done in port you can add it to the loan.

Like I said in another post, I got the best deal at Prestige for the JCW aero kit plus the CF rear diffuser. Total price for parts, paint and labor with NJ tax was $3600. So deduct about $500 for the CF rear diffuser and we are at $3100.

Morristown quoted me $3900.

Get it done at the VDC. They will do a much, much better job. They paint cars all day long.

Prestige or whomever they sub the work out to did an OK job the SECOND time around . The first time the front bumper got all chipped up in a 2 week period putting about 500 miles on the car. I complained and they repainted it. The JCW logo also fell off and they had to put a new one on.

Also they decided to order the original aero kit because the new one, the JCW aero kit II was on national back order. Even though I specifically asked for the new version with the brake ducts and updated splitter. They never told me this. I figured it out looking at the splitter and at the part # for the aero kit on the invoice. I wound up paying another $60 to have them put the updated splitter on. No additional charge for labor .

This picture was taken right after I brought the car home. You can see it has the original splitter.

This is after they repainted it, fixed the JCW logo and installed the updated splitter.

Order it from Morristown and do it yourself. Pretty easy, ask a buddy for help, get a 6 pack ($7.00).

Paid $2200 for port install and I'm sure the dealer still made money.

I ordered the prepainted version of older kit for about $1600 using Christmas special price and had it installed by local independent shop for about $150. Previous version which is okay by me but might add brake kit in the future.

Ordered mine pre-painted from Morristown for $1600 + shipping, had a local performance shop put it on for $200. I got the Stage 1 version w/o brake ducts.

I paid 1836.00 for the PRE painted Clubman S JCW kit. Came into the dealer in a HUGE box on a pallette. Put it on myself in about 3-4 hours.

Only needed my wife once to hold the rear bumper!!

$1439 for the kit unpainted (primer) only because it does not come pre-painted mellow yellow from factory but i believe for a couple of hundreds more you can get it pre-painted in White, Black, Red or Blue...

Why is there such a big difference in everyone's prices?? I just asked my dealer for a quote on the JCW kit today and am a little worried after reading this thread. Will I have a choice as to whether I want the VDC or dealer to do the install??

Honestly, why pay someone to put the cloth on ???
You can just put it on yourself. All you gotta do is pry the plastic screws and pop the body kit out. It's NOT THAT HARD!

Actually, depends on your perspective. If you are really handy with car stuff then it might be okay. If not, then it looked like a pain to me. I watched my seasoned professional do the install and there was a couple of "gotchas" along the way.... It was worth it to have someone install it for me but I got a really good price.

I put the add-on brake duct kit a couple of Saturdays ago with the help of some friends from my local MINI club. Having now participated in removing the bumper cover, working on it, and replacing it, I think I would tackle installing the whole kit next time around. It takes a while if you're inexperienced, but required no special tools or skills other than patience and some common sense to find all the fasteners. $200 or so for installation? maybe, but more than that is too high.

Just got an email from my MA with the quote for the kit installed at the dealership.

Kit - $1795
Paint - $1200
Labor - $600

Total = $3600 + Tax

Wow. I ordered the car already, and it's due to finish production by the end of this week. Is there any way I can still get them to install at the port to avoid these ridiculous costs at the stealership?

Real easy... call the dealer, tell them their price is BS. Tell them to have the VDC do it for much less (a recent post mentioned $2200 which seems fair) or you don't pick the car up when it comes in. Its that simple. Knowledge is power.

Very True. Me trying to save money i took off the stock skirts and the wheel archs since i wans getting them painted at the same time as the kit and they still were charging me $300 in labor to remove the old bumpers and put on the new painted ones... Well the rear bumper has "5 screws" that's it!!!!!!!!!! so unless you have money to the point that it just doesnt bother you spending it you can save cash if you know how to work a screwdriver

I'll be posting pics of mine soon. The JCW skirts, wheel archs and rear bumper have been installed. The front bumper has yet to be put on because BMW sent me two fog light covers for the "driver's side" instead of one and one :( so i'm waiting till the replacement comes in so i can put it on the bumper then finalize the aero kit upgrade

P.S. side skirts and wheel archs are mainly clips... if you're removing the stock skirts you will break some yet keep in mine that the new JCW kit should come with all the necessary clips you'll need to put it on, meaning you will get new ones and even if you have to buy any they're about 50-60 cents each (in the US at least)

Thanks. I shot my MA another email, but she is off tomorrow so I will call on Thursday to talk about this. I noticed you got it done at Prestige, which is the dealership that I'm buying my car from. Your car looks really good BTW.

Emann,

They are charging you full retail for the parts and labor. I had an official MINI coupon from Morristown MINI that I got in the mail. It was for 20% off parts and labor for all installed parts. I brought it in to Prestige and asked if they could match it? And that is how I got the good price.

From my experience, you want to get the aero kit painted and installed at the VDC. Do NOT get it done by the body/paint shop that Prestige subs their work out too. I was not impressed and had to have them re-spray it.

They also left off the left and right ram-air lips (the little plastic pieces that hang down just behind the splitter that moves the air around the car instead of underneath it.

They are not a bad bunch of guys nor a bad dealer. They are located in a wealthy area and expect people to pay top dollar.

A word of advice. Inspect the car in the daylight. Do not pick it up at night or in the rain. Or better yet have your car up on a lift when you go to pick it up. Bring a magnifying glass and eye ball the whole car and touch it too, make sure the trim and body panels are all tight, no damage lined up etc. Why??

Issues I missed at delivery:
-JCW badge on secret compartment - missing at delivery.
-Passenger side wheel arch clip broken. They had to order and paint a new wheel arch.
-The whole front of the car had Xpel (clear bra) installed prior to delivery. Full hood, front bumper, lower part of the factory aero kit, side view mirror caps & headlights. Well they left the Xpel film off the lower part of the factory aero kit off 2 times. 2 times I had to go back for this mistake .
-Cover on center arm rest broken.

I really love my car. I am obsessed with it. But I have been back to Prestige MINI so many times mostly for stupid things. 16 months and 15.5k miles later no major issues.

I happen to live 15 minutes away and they always give me a loaner.

I would buy another car from them. I just wish the service dept would take care of things properly the first time.

PM me if you want to trade emails/IMs or chat on the phone about Prestige.

-Steve

Well.. I heard back from the dealer today and they said that it is not possible to get the kit installed at the port anymore because they didn't order it that way. Only thing is when I ordered the car, my MA told me specifically that accessories are put on after the car gets to the dealership.

There's no way I'm paying close to $4k for this kit to be installed at the dealership. This is very upsetting....

I would talk to the GM of Prestige to see what he has to say. You could cancel your order and re-order it from Prestige or order from Morristown.

Does the kit come pre-painted from the factory? My MA seemed to indicate that painting (at the dealership) was only required if you wanted the wheel wells painted to match the body, instead of the matt black standard finish.

Some of the kits can be purchased prepainted but not all of the colors.

How in the world do you get the expander screws out from underneath the sills? Oh, and the clips on top, too.

I got the back bumper on, and I put together the sills, but I can't get the old sills off.

I'd like to finish up with this tomorrow - including front bumper cover, so any help will be appreciated.
