JCW Brake Kit Upgrade

I searched but I didn't find an answer so I'll ask it here.

(Q1): Any idea what the cost of the JCW Brake Kit is? I can't seem to find it on the Morristown web site for the 09 Convertible?

(Q2): Any ideas what the dealership will estimate as the number of hours for the install?

(Q3): The installation instructions posted on MotoringFile show a front cross-drilled roter. Is that the same one that is available seperately without the JCW Brake Kit, or is it recommended to order that one as well?

Says they're $1600, in the blowout section. I think there's a pdf around here somewhere with install instructions which should say the estimated install time.

Check ebay.co.uk (not the US ebay site). There are a couple Mini dealers there that regularly post the front calipers. I picked a set up for less than $600 shipped. Spent a little over two hundred more for rotors, and the install at local brake shop was less than $100. Deals can be had if you are patient in the bidding process.

Otherwise, thevelourfog is right, $1600 from morristown, and that includes the rear. My MA wanted $2000, so that is a great price, and you cannot beat their service.

Install was about an hour total for the front, perhaps a little more in the back. Again, get done a qualified local place vs. dealer if you are not comfortable doing yourself. My dealer wanted 4-6 hours.

From my rotor shopping experience, I can tell you first hand, the only rotors you can presently buy for the Brembo JCWs are the cross drilled/slotted. The new JCWs come with blanks, but I could not get a dealer to sell them to me. None of the regulars had rotors that would fit the JCWs, and trust me, I checked with everyone before biting the bullet and getting the JCWs. They are 316x22s. Everyone else seems to only carry the 296, which will be too small.

You could even install it yourself, but you're supposedly supposed to get a reflash from the dealer. What the flash really does, I don't know. I don't know how much they'd charge to do just that, but I'd get a quote and shop around.

I called my dealer after I saw the link on Morristown, and my dealer did better than the Morristown price, and they quoted me 3 hrs install.

So now the big question is, do I go for it?

I'm still a bit confused about one thing. The JCW Brake Kit, does it come with those cross drilled and slotted JCW roters, or are those extra as they seem to be avaialble by themselves for less than $100 each.

Something to think about. Your wheels probably won't clear the calipers of the JCWs. At least, thats what the configurator claims.

YES, when you buy the kit it comes with the JCW cross drilled sloted rotors.

Yes, they come with drilled slotted. The ones you are linking to are not the Brembo kit, they are the 296 kit for the R53. Look at the calipers closely you will see. You cannot buy the JCW Brembo rotors for $100 each. If you get the kit, you get it all, including the proper rotors.

I said the same thing to my dealer who called MiniUSA and confirmed that our R111 Rims do work with the JCW Brakes. They also said that the document in ASAP will be updated in the coming months to indicate that.

I told service if that isn't true, and they muck up my rims, they have to replace them. They said no issue with that since MiniUSA said it will fit just like the JCW rims.

I thought that was true, but I asked the parts dept who confirmed that the link I posted above is for the 2009 Convertible, and are the JCW Rotors that are sold seperately from the actual JCW Brake Kit.

Just to confirm this myself, I went to www.REALOEM.com and search for the same part number, and what comes up is the JCW Rotor for the R50/52/53/55/56/57. Then I select the R57, and it goes to this page http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...=34&fg=95&hl=6 which indicates that it's the JCW Sport Brake, and the rotor part number, description and picture appears on that page.

So, I assume that you can order just the JCW Rotor that comes as part of the brake kit seperately if you wanted, and from one of the post above, that same rotor comes with the JCW brake kit.

Thanks to everyone who replied back to my thread. I've decided to go with the JCW Brake Kit, especially since my dealer not only match Morristown's $1600, but decided to go a bit lower as an incentive to purchase it right now. They are in the warehouse, and hopefully it'll arrive before next Friday.

Now, I have a call into my SA to see if they will honor the previous month's coupon for a discount on the installation of 3.5 hours as the PDF states above. If I can get it below $2100 out the door (parts, labor and taxes) included, that would be awesome.

So I went ahead and ordered the kit. The dealer gave me an awesome price, slightly lower than Morristown, and offered a discount on the installation as well. The kit will be installed this Friday. Can't wait!

Installation completed on Friday, and man it looks awesome. For those who have the 2009 S Convertible with the R111 Bullet Star rims, the JCW Brake Kit fits perfectly, and it compatible with those rims.

noob chiming in here... im planning on ordering my mcs soon, and wanted to do the Upgraded Sport Brake Kit, but it shows that the wheels that i want to get will not fit with the brake kit. The wheels are the JCW R105's. Is the sport brake kit really that big of a difference to worry about if they will fit or not? or should i just keep the stock mcs and get the wheels without upgraded brakes? (i plan to daily drive this vehicle, and im constantly doing twisties/mountain roads, so bigger/better brakes would be optimal) Thanks!

Here is the link to an old installation PDF http://www.motoringfile.com/files/jcw_brakes.pdf but it doesn't make reference to your R105s not compatible with the Spoke Brake Kit. The best thing to do woul dbe to ask your dealer. I had to do that with the new R111 Rims available on the 09 Cabrio, and they had to call MiniUSA to confirm. MiniUSA said no problem, it will fit, and sure enough it did.

Updated: This link has is a more recent installation guide along with has an updated list of approved RIMs. http://www.minigenuineparts.co.uk/MI...structions.pdf

After you get about 500 miles on those brakes you should really feel the difference. They are amazing.

Was anyone able to find a diagram that showed the size of the rotor/caliper to see what aftermart wheels will fit? ASA AR2's will fit JCW brakes.

When you upgraded to the JCW brakes was anything else needed that was not in the kit beside brake lines? Thanks,

Everything was in the box except for the special tool that I think the PDF above references.

Hi,

I've ordered the JCW Sport Brake kit for my 2007 MCS. For those who have done this, did it require different brake lines? They're not in the kit, so I assume that it doesn't need a different set. Do the stock R56 lines fit?

I'd like to replace the stock brake lines when I do the brake upgrade but no one seems to know for sure if the standard replacements will work?

Can anyone confirm this?

Thanks!
Tom
