JCW kit gas mileage?

I've found several threads discussing JCW gas mileage, but no distinction between the factory JCW and the JCW kit. I really wanted a JCW Convertible but I dont want to wait around for MINI to make a factory model. My question is, How does the JCW kit gas mileage compare to a Cooper S gas mileage for the hardtop drivers out there?

I have not noticed any difference under normal driving conditions. I ran 4 tank fulls after I had the kit installed to get a good average and drove it the same as I did before the kit was installed. I didn't notice a change myself. The hardest part is keeping your foot out of it and playing....even then I don't think I have noticed any difference. There is just better and smoother power overall.

i have an auto and before installation i was driving around 9-10 liters per 100 km with the addition of heavy traffic jam of istanbul. after the installation of the kit it rose to 11-12 liters per 100 km, but as futuremini stated i think i started to play too much

The biggest impact is due to the desire to drive the car harder. Otherwise, no real change to MPG for me either.

I'm still getting 32-33mpg (with winter gas!) after I got the kit in October. My first few tanks after I got it were a little lower since the desire to make it louder is harder to resist.

r53 JCW

I just drove my R53 JCW (w/30k miles) from TX to PA and avg 34 with hwy speeds. Around town I get on avg 27-29 depending on my spirited foot.

Ugh

Man you guys are sure making it tough on my wallet, hehe. Interesting even with an upgraded air filter and exhaust and an ECU tune, you can maintain the same MPG. Makes me wonder just how much power you can squeeze out of that little car!

R53 JCW

I have everything except the CAI. So I'm not real sure how much difference that makes on the gas mileage. I suspect it would change it a little around town or with hard driving, but not that much on any long trips where your speed is pretty consistent.
All I know is the JCW is fun....smooth power all the way through the RPMs...

Same. My numbers are down about 2 MPG but that has nothing to do with the car and everything to do with me pushing the pedal just a bit more.

Here, here! I'm in the same boat. *KNOWING* that I've got that extra power is enough to tempt me to play a bit harder.

What's 2 miles less per gallon when you've got a great big grin while you're driving??!?

Cheers,
-CT

Taken from a recent Popular Mechanics article talking about the factory JCW.

"Gas mileage suffers a little bit, but the JCW still offers econobox thrift, at 25 mpg city and 33 mpg highway. That's just 1 mpg less than the 175 hp Cooper S." My assumption would be that the Stage 1 JCW kit that you asked about would "split the difference" or be close to the stock R56S as others have commented.

WOW!!! Getting around 21MPG on the winter gas. Way too much fun to keep my foot out of it. When I can control myself it is up in the low 30's MPG
