Painting wheel wells and plastic HELP!

I am looking to get all the plastic around the side of the car painted. I have seen it done so it looks floss with the car. I want to do them a gloss black. What do I need to do? Are they on my clips? Do the clips break?

For the fender trims, they are attached by push clips from inside the wheel well. The clips are fairly easy to break, but I got a lot of extras when I had to replace a fender trim, so I would suggest you do the same. As for painting, take them to a paint shop, or check out some of the other threads on here about this. Good luck with this!!

Btw, its 'Chili' Red, not chilie red

Duplicolor makes a vinyl and plastic paint. I saw an episode of one of those Saturday-morning car shows where they revived and old Miata and the end result looked absolutely fantastic. It's a three-step process: clean and degrease, a special primer/adhesive, then the paint. Good luck and be sure to post the results.

You PM'ed me asking how we do the plastic paint process....did you get my response? Save yourself and dont rattle can you car. Spend the extra and get it done right. 90% of getting plastic right is in the prep, if you want it to look factory spend the extra money. You can also give me a call if you like at 386-871-3637. We are a custom paint shop and we see rattle can jobs from time to time and we are usually trying to salvage those parts fpr re paint.

Here is how we do it from prep to paint

1. Simple green the entire part to remove ant mold release agent. DRY WELL
2. Wipe down with DT320 DRY WELL let stand 10 minutes before next step
3. Use SU4901 clean solution sponge DRY Well
4. Use SU4902 Plastic Adheasion wipe..DO NOT let puddle on parts. 10 minutes for next step
5. Use SUA4033 Bonding Agent 15 minutes before paint
6. For an ulta smooth finish I use Deltron 3000 as a base..NOT a primer. Let stand for a day then wet sand with 1500
7. Paint
8. Clear coat

I have had mine painted on my 2002 MCS, 2004 MCS and just got them painted on our 2009 JCW. I have had no issues. A local shop does the total aerokit and flairs for $700.00.

I've been told to go with new pieces for best results and no down time while they are being painted.

You can go with new parts...this way you have no down time and the cost is around $120 for (4) arches. I think thats what I paid. Do yourself a favor and get it done right, in the long run you will be happy.
