New JCW Brake Kit Questions

I've searched but I cannot find a good answer.

Does anyone know when the new JCW Brakes will be available for the R56 S?

Also, with which wheels are they compatible--17" Web-spokes?

These are the officially approved wheels:

The list...

R104 Crown Spoke
R108 Multi Spoke

R113 JCW Cross Spoke

MINI won't measure or test any aftermarket wheels. You're on your own.

Have priced a full set up here locally in New Zealand and the cost is going to be ridiculous I am afraid to say - circa north of US$5,000.00 here retail.

Five large would be quite the hurdle.

I had been working on the assumption that the upgrade would be in line with the price from the factory ($1395 IIRC) plus labor. However, if new wheels are in order, it would certainly make it much more expensive.

I talked to Will today at Morristown Mini about these. He gave me a part number for the kit, which includes the 4 rotors and calipers. He said it would be around $1,600 he thought. I'm traveling and don't have the part number with me, but will post it on Thurs when I get back, or you can call him direct.

R56 MINI Cooper S (stock)
front: 294 mm (= 11.5748031 inches) brake disc diameter
rear: 259 mm (= 10.1968504 inches) brake disc diameter

R56 MINI John Cooper Works (retrofit brake kit)
front: 316 mm (= 12.4409449 inches) brake disc diameter
rear: 280 mm (= 11.023622 inches) brake disc diameter

The price tag is 1,780.00 Euros (~2,820 $US).

Have a guess what's going to happen once I sell my motorcycle ... the cash will be spent for... anyone guessing?

They are Brembo with a JCW logo...A set of brembos is at least $2600.00 plus these have the JCW logo on them so add another $500 for that plus MINI part another $500 ..maybe I am getting closer to the price.

They are super stoppers, comparing them to the OEM or even the JCW brake kit is like comparing a....well there is no comparing them.

If you have a MCS and wish the JCW brakes...just get out of your MCS and order a JCW, unless you have silly money then is all good.

Just a reality check.

Sincere questions: How much use on an MCS are better brakes?

Do you have put wider tires on it to make use of the extra stopping power? Can they shorten braking distance with 204/45-17 tires? Or, is it something that just becomes useful with racing use of brakes?

Honestly brembo etc BBK doesn't help you stop any faster. Robin you have it right in that your tires would be a big limiting factor as would the brake pads.

What these BBK and bigger rotor/calipers give you is a big resistance to fading. However in my experience, proper cooling can go a long ways to combat fading than BBK and much cheaper as well.

Me personally I'll probably go with some kind of BBK just because I want them and for no other reason.

This is the same part number that Will gave to me; rotors are 316x22mm (12.4" dia), and he said the price from Morristown would be around $1,600.

I can't tell you how much better the brakes are, I have only test drive the JCW hardtop for 3 miles, I will be getting mine by the weekend, and I will run more...The only thing I have to say is that the brake feel is better and I did brake hard entering a corner at moderate speed and the MINI just follow beautifully, I have the JCW set-up with SS braided hoses on my MCS w/JCW Tuning kit, an doen not even compared to the bigger set up. Now I think the big difference will be seen after hard braking on the track, the regular JCW brake kit will tired sooner and brake fade will be apparent.

AND if it's true that one can aquired these brakes for a mere $1600 bucks, wow I will put a set on my MCS too, the looks alone is tops.
