JCW Cabrio March 2009 $33k
Autoblog is reporting that JCW Cabrio will be unveiled in March at the Geneva Motor Show.
The drop-top Works will, by and large, share the same mechanics as the Cooper cabrio (for bodystyle) and the 208hp JCW hatchback (for go-fast bits), with the possible addition of the optional front sway bar as standard to keep the body rigid. An extra 220 pounds of weight is tipped to make the run to sixty 0.3 seconds slower than the hard-top; at about 6.5 seconds, tied with the bigger JCW Clubman. Price is anticipated to begin at $33,000 – pretty steep for a MINI, but a tantalizing choice – with a vast catalog of accessories and options available on top of that. Of the 240,000 MINIs built each year, only 12,000 of those will be earmarked for "the works", only 4,000 of those as JCW cabrios, with just 1200 anticipated to make it stateside, so if you want one, better call your MINI store now.

I've been thinking about upgrading my order no matter what. The only thing that got me is that car would be $40k after you add some options and tax... Little to rich...
Perhaps stripper (base model no options) would be better choice...

The article they link in that article says it will be available 8 months after the JCW hardtop? Didnt those already start production this month? Does this mean the JCW cabrio will be released at the same time as the 2009 cabrio?
Considering that the debut is not until the Geneva show in March '09, I would not expect this available in the first batches of U.S. R57s-- but one can hope for later in the summer

Yeah 40k is pushing my limits. The JCW comes with sports package but after adding premium/cold weather/convenience packages it would quickly approach that limit. I'll have to see the configurator options when they're available. I was a bit surprised to see only 1200 are coming to the US? That seems like a low number. Then again it makes the car stand out that much more!

^ and all that power - in my opinion - is useless on the standard suspension (it doesn't even come with sports suspension) -- so factor in the cost of JCW suspension too. (Note: the factory JCW does come with the "sports" package ---- except for the sport suspension; that is an a la carte option )
. . . although this is the only way I know of to get the burble in the U.S. R57 -- so that alone might be worth the price premium.
