JCW spoiler whistle?

I know that there have been several complaints about the R56 JCW spoiler making a whistle sound. Has anyone had this problem with the R53 version?

Also, if you have/had this spoiler, please share any complaints you may have. Thanks.

I have the JCW spoiler on my R53, fitted it in October 2007 and haven't had any problems or whistle.

I had to fit a stubby aerial as the spoiler doesn't clear the factory one.

Love the spoiler and don't regret buying or fitting it.

I helped a friend install the rear spoiler on his R53 last summer, and yes it whistled. He recently sold the R53 and bought a R56, installed a spoiler on it which also had the whistle. Luckily he was able to get the dealer to take the new spoiler on the R56 back.

I love the looks and would like to have one, but not if I have to listen to a whistle all of the time.

my JCW wing doesn't whistle, but, mct's did. he found a very small area that wasn't sealed to the roof. it was almost invisible. he filled in the small gap w/ clear silicone and no more whistle. hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback.

Andy, loving the look.

bean, that's a good bit of info and it's nice to know that the whistle can be fixed.

wscruiser, did you & your friend install the wing per the factory directions and using the specified adhesive?

mine has the whistle. i would describe it as a little birdy sitting in the backseat. only when you turn around to see him he hides.

Yes. Followed the directions step by step, and used their overpriced adhesive and gun.

I am beginning to think that the whistle issue with the JCW wing is unique to cars with the factory sunroof. Perhaps we could start a poll to track this. Anyone know how to set one up?

yeah, i have a sun roof, and yeah, mine whistles. I can see a gap in the glue, and i figured filling that would stop the whistle. havnt had a chance to yet tho, maybe tomorrow. will let you know

I have both a sunroof and JCW spoiler which I carefully installed myself with the correct adhesive and procedures. Never had any problems at all with it, whistling or otherwise.

Since I also have the NAV antenna there was no clearance issue to be solved and I always get favorable comments on the look. Makes it very easy to spot in a crowd photo..

It's one of the better modifications I have added.
