JCW Aero kit vs Factory Aero Kit *Newbe*

Hey guys,

I have been lurking these forums for a few weeks. I am in the market for an 08 MCS. I have been reading up on the JCW Aero kit. I know that you have to have it installed outside of the factory which costs about 2500.00 dollars. MY questions is how does the JCW Aero kit look compared to the Factory Aero kit and is the factory Aero kit worth the money? A picture comparison would be great.

THanks...

Christian

Look here for starters:

Someone in my neighborhood has the factory aero kit. In real life, it looks every bit as awkward it does in photos.

+1. While painting the fenders goes a long way in improving the look, lets just say the factory aero kit is an 'interesting' piece. Perhaps, an acquired taste?

JCW is pretty hot though. If it could be installed at the factory, I can't imagine anyone going for the other aero kit.

Here is mine ...

Well worth getting, been really happy with it. They are really factory prepped in Germany (at least mine since I found all the prep stickers on the inside). When the dealer gets them, they remove and send back to MINI your original parts and install the JCW. On mine, I was not charged installation for any of my options, negotiated that up front

The rear bumper is my favorite part on the areo kit. Anyone know if you can just buy pieces of it or just the whole thing?

You can definitely buy just the side skirts (something I'm considering for myself). Therefore I can't imagine that you wouldn't be able to buy the other pieces separately as well.

Your best bet would be to check with a local dealership. I saw the sideskirts here, but that's the only component of the aero skit which this vendor offers. $800 mind you, that's half of what Morristown charges for the entire kit! I'd actually call them (Morristown) first and see if they'd be willing to part a kit out for you.

Best of luck

^^ +1, very curious. I haven't heard of anyone being able to get a deal what sweet. Especially given how much installation is for the kit, with it needing to be painted and everything.

Worth also getting/installing the rear fog lights ! If the dealer, can not do it, you can do it yourself !

Cheers.

I just picked up my 08 MCSa with the factory aero kit and I have to say I like it. For me the JCW was too in your face for me but to each is own. Got some pics here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...93#post1980293

I've been looking at photos side by side trying to figure out exactly what is included in the JCW aero kit.

It "seems" to be...

Black trim around grill
Different mesh grill - ??
Black trim along the front side wheel wells? Maybe not...
Black trim around the fog lamps and rear lamps
Side skirts that are slightly larger (lower?) with openings in front of the rear wheel

Is that it? Even the Mini website doesn't have much in the way of details.

Vicskimmer's low angle shot looks awesome but much of this look is the black wheels - are these 18" wheels or does the car have lowered/stiffer suspension?

I wish I could find side by side photos (in red/black perferably) of the stock 2008 MCS and a 2007/2008 MCS with JCW Aero.

And what is the "factory aero" kit?

I think I may still have the before and after pics of mine. Well check when I get home tonight.

Black trim around grill = yes

Different mesh grill = yes (at least in my case)

Black trim along the front side wheel wells? Maybe not... = yes, new black trim with a different shape

Black trim around the fog lamps and rear lamps = completely new and different style bumpers. JCW bumper in the front is lower.

Side skirts that are slightly larger (lower?) with openings in front of the rear wheel = yes, but not lower

My pics has 17" rims with run flats.

Cheers,
Roberto

Front end comparison:
With

Without

Different angles:

I didn't take more than one pic of the car before the kit was put on, but I should have for comparison's sake I think.

Edit: The rims are 17" and it looks lower because I parked in a grassy area to take up most of the negative space under the car No suspension mods as of yet.

Edit2: Here's a pic of all the components of the kit (from another NAM member)

Perfect - thank you. Just what I needed to see - especially since we have the same color!
