Stage II JCW Kit?

Is this considered Stage II JCW Kit coming out:impatient ...I guess I will hold out till this one is offered.

More Powerful MINI JCW Performance kit Spied at Nurburgring
In addition to the high demand of the customers wanting more power, MINI's tuning division, John Cooper Works (JCW), seeks to distance itself further from the competition with a second more powerful performance and styling kit for the Mini Cooper S. With potential competitors such as the Clio Renaultsport 197 with 197 horsepower or Fiat's 180hp Punto Abarth SS Concept revealed at this past Frankfurt Motor Show and likely to go into production, the first JCW kit for the second generation MINI with its 192hp is slightly inadequate.

Expected features:
  • power increase to 215hp
  • JCW exhaust
  • bigger / larger JCW brakes
  • restyled JCW Aero body kit
  • unique 18' JCW wheels
  • JCW sport suspension
The car shown in the images is a prototype / development car during tests at the Nürburgring - Nordschleife with a restyled Aero kit which includes front and rear bumper fascias and side skirts plus 18-inch wheels from the JCW GP Limited Edition. The front bumper fascia shows revised fog lamp and lower center grills for improved cooling to the new brakes.

The unveiling of the finalized car is expected for Geneva Motor Show in March 2008 with first deliveries starting with model year 2009 in summer 2008.

Taken with a grain of salt....

My MA last week when I picked up my MCS said that there is a 230 hp version JCW (from factory not dealer installed) that is coming out in late 2008...

The so called "restyled JCW Aero body kit" in that picture is quite clearly the kit offered in the current hypersport package.

I'm waiting until a factory JCW kit is available before I consider placing an order for a 2008.

I do not want to risk paying extra for a dealer to install the current kit only to find that something much better was right around the corner.

As to the car pictured:
  • power increase to 215hp? - Doubtful.
  • JCW exhaust - Wrong.
  • bigger / larger JCW brakes - Check.
  • restyled JCW Aero body kit - Wrong. It's the Hippo-sport front end.
  • unique 18' JCW wheels - Wrong. They're just borrowed from the GP to tempararily fit over the brakes.
  • JCW sport suspension - Doubtful.
As reported, that car is the test mule for the JCW big break kit. No more. No less.

That would be a heck of a sacrafice when opting for the bigger brakes. Yes, you get more stopping power, but at the cost of submitting to that body kit! Uggghhhh! No thanks!

You'll probably be waiting a while then. MotoringFile claims that there shouldn't be a factory installed (Stage II) JCW kit until the 2009 model year (which may indeed come in late 2008 I suppose). I'd definitely believe MF over a MA any day.

I've also heard that there will be a factory JCW car in late 2008. But, I've also heard that the 2009's will be out next year in the fall vs. end of the year/beginning of the year like they are doing this year with 2008 R56. I was told the late switch over this year had to do with timing it with start of production for the Clubman. So, both can coincide... if they change to 2009's in September, we could see the new JCW as a 2009 model in late 2008.

Just a heads up - some of this info is a bit off base. We'll have more legitimate information on MotoringFile later this week.

Factory JCW MINI Revealed

We've had this under wraps for sometime just verifying everything. But I can tell you the info is pretty freakin' solid and there's tons more to come.

And btw those pics in all the articles yesterday? That's a testing mule for the new brake kit. It's not the JCW car according to people who were at the track.

Thanks for the update Gabe! I've been checking motoringfile several times a day for the past couple weeks waiting to see this announcement.

If only I didn't have to wait until summer. . . . .

As much as I have loved modifying my 2003 MCS, this time around I will be going OEM all the way. I figure I can buy this car, buy the extended warranty, and then beat the snot out of it for 100k while letting MINI-USA pay for maintenance and repairs.

Yes, I have seen $10K bikes at the shop.... handmade from Germany. But I have my eyes set on Specialized Elite for $1800, and I will be a very happy man with one of those...

Isn't $6K what the old JCW kit cost for the Gen 1 cars?
