Getting ready to install a JCW Intake.
Should I "gut it"; remove flat before install, or install it with all of the hoses and flap as is from the factory?

My vote is to remove the flap and various flap control parts (hoses, canister, vacuum diaphragm, linkage, and wires) plus attached a plate over the resulting hole. I glued a thin plastic square over the hole. But there will be a little more intake noise with the flap removed. I like the extra noise.
I got a good deal on the JCW, cheaper than the Alta.
My take is that if you feel like you might not want the flap, just take it out. It's a very quiet, subdued intake (mine's back on after I screwed up my Dinan), and the added noise without the flap is nice to hear.

I may have to give that a shot. I've got the flap removed, and I could actually do with a little less intake noise. Maybe if the car felt stronger...
Right now I feel like it's making more noise than power.

Also matters whether or not you have a throttle that whistles like Andy Griffith. I went from Dinan to JCW with the flap and plug to hide the whistle, but still get the SC while at higher revs. I like.
Like some others, I recommend you start with the JCW "stock" and then modify if it's not to your liking...
