Interior/Exterior PAINT SCHEME
I am repairing my MCS after my crash. My car is IB/IB, with dark tinted windows and S lites.I have to replace some of the trim. 1 skirt and 2 arches. I have installed the Aero grilles. What If:
I paint everything IB including arches, skirts, the grilles, the mesh lower grilles front and rear. Do you think the "monochromatic" look would work?

I have seen the PW & IB done like this and it looks awesome   I don't think painting the trim, etc. all the same color will be too much
Do you have a white roof? Maybe the trim, etc. in white would look cool
Chow!

I was thinking about this color scheme the other day.
Find a good shop that does custom auto airbrushing.
Check out their work - see if they have pictures of what they have done.
See if they can do carbon fiber well. We have a shop in Hawaii that does great work on motorcycles and autos.
They can do a painted on carbon fiber finish that looks exactly like carbon fiber.
Paint the side mirrors, the wheel arch flares or even the entire (or portion) of the roof with carbon fiber and gloss finish. You can even paint your rims carbon fiber or maybe indi blue/ with silver accent trim at the outer edge. Some people power coat the wheels.
I think it would be great. I was thinking of pulling out my entire front dash, center pillars, rims from dials and shifter, speaker covers, door handles and pulls and having them all painted in carbon fiber.

darksky,
If you check out the painting instructions that come with the aero kit, they indicate that the grill surrounds should be painted body color while the grill mesh sections are left black. Nobody seems to do it even though the cost would be a minimal addition to the total aero kit painting cost. I think this, combined with body colored arches, rockers, and bumber lips would be excellent! I'm not sure I'd like the actual grill mesh painted body color; might start to look like an Earl Sheib $99 paint job.
If you really want to go all out, paint the entire mirrors, body and caps, in matching body color. I've seen that and it looks very nice!
When I get my JB/JB MCS I plan to add a chrome grill, mirror caps, and boot handle, and have all the rest of the trim painted JB to match the body.
Here's a pic of IB with painted arches, rockers, bumpers, and mirrors (not my car - found in members mini's):

Good luck,
James

Part of the reason why this all blue mini looks so good is that the entire blue color scheme is offset by the english flag overlaying the entire car. If you make it all one color than it become monotone and needs something- a contrasting color or texture to offset the blue. Could be race number, stripes, flames, color gradient pattern, or talk to an art student or go to an art gallery and study designs in graphic art. Some people have a personal logo like the sigs we have on MCO. Just some ideas.
The idea of painting the trim of the grille on the aerokits and leave the center part of the grille black is good and I did also notice that nobody is doing that.

But I do think the monochromatic look can work; I always liked the monochromatic Mercedes AMGs of the early/mid eighties. Sometimes all it takes is a really bright set of wheels to make the whole look just "pop". All IB with bright silver, chrome, white, or even yellow
wheels might just look great. Plus darksky did say his windows are tinted dark, which will help to break-up/offset all the IB to some extent.Cheers,
James
I have an IB/IB as well (MC) and it hasn't grown the least bit old on me either, but I suspect an ALL IB scheme wouldn't stay that way long. I think after a while I'd be ready to add vinyl and/or magnetic graphics here and there, but I suppose that's one of the plusses - a monochromatic canvas that you can easily modify at will without any painted accent colors to worry about or clash with.
You have to make sure you take it to a shop that REALLY knows what they're doing though. I'm sure those who've done it will say this is an unusual experience, but I saw two MCS' on a dealer lot with body colored arches, etc, and the quality of the work was rather poor. The arches had that look like something obviously repainted...you know what I mean.

All of the painted wheel arch and body kits I have seen done through my dealer have been first rate- beautifully done.
Another idea. Indi blue all over with chrome accents- a little where you want it and CHROME wheels- either OEM or aftermarket- rough additional cost for 17" chrome about $145 per rim and shipping to Platecorp.com in California.
The chrome wheels look really nice when the car is going like jewels.- That would offset the all blue color and compliment the chrome accents.
Here's a sample

I will be at the shop tomorrow, and will really give the grillesa good look. Ithink the Aero skirts will be added for sure. Since I've already done the grilles, I will not replace the front end. The Aero cap is cool, but I have to look at my cost/benefit ratios. The body colored mirrors are a great idea.I will look at them too. I think I may commit to my previous idea about a custom stripe:
a 1 inch wide ribbon sarting on the outside of the headlight and ruuning horzontally above the front wheel. The first fold (switchback, wrinkle, whatever) more or less under the Fender "S" emblem carrying across the door. The second fold under the door handle. carrying to the quarter panel and ending in front of the tail light. At the end the ribbon will be about three inches wide and will appear to have been torn. It will be made up of three rows of black and white checks (checkered flag) starting very small (3 in one inch) slowly growing to one inch squares towards the back. The entire ribbon will be slightly wavy (as if the car had torn a finish line ribbon) because of the waviness very few of the checks will actually be square. all will be shaded to help with the folded effect. (shade the white with blue to make it appear more three dimensional). The outer edges will be pinstiped in black to make it look as if it is laying on the clearcoat
Maybe only two inches wide at the widest. I would not want it to dominate the side of the car too much. I can't spend a fortune, but I want to make the car "better" than before. Some type of attempt at an apology for wrecking it. I am also doing some performance mods to the suspension while it is apart. Thanks for your ideas!
