I leased a brand new 2005 Mini S back in August of 2005 and shortly before it hit 10,000 miles it started making a strange squeeking sound only when I would take off and not everytime. When I took it in at 10,000 for oil change I told service about it but it did not make the sound and so they just noted it. Well it conitued to make the noise off and on and now the car has 22,000 miles and I had to take it in because the coolant was leaking and I told service again it was still making that strange noise only more and sometimes it smells like something is burning. Well they said that I needed to know it would be $1500 (to put it back together) if they took it apart and found out the problem was due to my driving. I thought it would be covered by warranty and they told me only if there is a defect. I told her if they are already telling me I could be charged why would they then say it was a mechanical defect?

Has anyone had this problem with there Mini S. They also, said if I'm doing alot of stopping and going which I do when I am in town could cause this. Is this true? Am I not supposed to stop!

I believe I'm in the wrong forum, but what would this go under? I did not see anything about clutches.

 

If you search around you'll notice that a lot of people have encountered the "squeak" that never shows up at the dealer. I also have been "noted" 2 or 3 times, but everytime my SA gets in the car with me there is no squeek to be found.

If it's the same squeek I have... I would guess that yours only happens out of first gear and seems more prevelant when it is humid or rainy?

I've had the squeek since 10k too... but I'm at 46k now and have never had a problem.

This is my personal experience... so I'm not going to tell you that "nothing is wrong"... I'll just say that it's pretty common.

 

I took my car in and the problem was a defective fly wheel and they covered labor and parts. They strongly suggested that I get a new clutch kit even if they were at normal wear. I decided to go for the kit and paid $315 and no labor and have everything start new. It rides like new again!

 

I too have the squeak. My 03 jcw has 24000 miles. I was able to get the service advisor to hear it on a test drive. they did the flywheel and i paid to have a new clutch put it. It did nothing. still squeaks. I've brought it back twice since. They've had the car for over 3 weeks in the past 3 months. They won't acknowledge the squeak. Totally frustrating.
