Did you all know that your mini has some inactive features that you can activate at your dealership for free. Here is what I just added:

-Daytime running lights
-using the remote key to open the windows and sunroof
-closing the windows and sunroof by inserting the key and rotating clockwise and hold.
-auto locking at 5 mph.
-safety feature: with lights on, turn off ignition and then switch the light switch to off. Lights will stay on for 40 seconds, lighting your way to your door.

This again was for free at your MINI dealer and it took only 1 hour.

I love these features.

If you have a nice dealer you can. Just request it the next time you're in for service.

My MCS came with all of that stuff already to go when I picked it up. I thought they all came that way. It is so cool to be able to open the windows before I get to the car on a hot day!

mine does that already too, except for the daytime running lights and "follow me home" lights. I'm going to have the daytime running lights done when I go in for service.

I turned in a list of option I wanted and didn't want to the dealer before my car arrived and they were all programed in when I picked it up.

Some of those things were rteady at delivery. 400 miles ago. I'll add the "follow me home lights"

I have the Auto shut window and roof. Wonder if I have the auto open by remote? Is that a seperate fuction. What sequence with the remote do you use?

Maxamini,
What you do is press the unlock button on your key and hold. The windows and roof will start to open. Depending on how long you hold the button down will determine how far the windows and roof will open up.

I had the dealer program these the other day--unfortunately the "early builds" don't recognize these programs Mine is a January '02 build and I'm stuck with the completely useless rear hatch release.

Help me MINIUSA--these are cool features that I'd like to have if possible.

It's fun to pop the sunroof and windows from a distance when people are standing around gaukin' at my Mini in a parking lot. The looks on their faces are priceless as the Mini just opens up for them. Sometimes they jump back thinking they've done something wrong! Then I come strolling up.... darn funny.... we all have a laugh!

My MCS came pre programmed to do all of those things before I got it.
I think at my dealership it is standard on taking delivery of the car.

I also have fun opening all of the side doors automatically using the remote for my Honda Odyssey.

Hey! I just noticed that my MINI has a roof that's a different color than its body! How cool is that?!

Mine too. Why are some cars already like this and some aren't?

Thanks for the info. While my ride is at the dealer I'll have them do the programing.

I've got 400 miles and three tow jobs back for failure to start and twice shutting down on the road.

Part is backordered ten days and they loan me a Camry. Euugh!

My Cooper was built in Mar. '02 and it too has/had the early-build program problems... However, my dealer was able to program the DRL, auto-lock, remote open doors & roof - key in door to close them and delayed headlamp shut-off. According to my dealer the auto-lock feature was the most difficult in terms of programming - it took several visits with different codes used for this to be activated. They told me the early-build's have several different codes determined by build date. As of May '02, all codes were standardized by Mini and all MC & MCS's can be programmed using the same codes regardless of build-date as long as its after May '02! (Don't quote me on this last statement - its info from my dealer...!)
Hope this answers your concern and allows you to have your MINI programmed with the features you will enjoy as you Motor around!

BTW: I like the look of the DRLs! On MINIs without xennons this feature activates the highbeam lamps which are the lower bulbs in the headlamp clusters. This adds more personality and gives your Mini a focused The only side-effect is you will not be able to drive with the driving/fog lamps on only. Your Mini thinks its Highbeam headlamps are on when the DRL feature is activated and this will disable the driving/fog lamps only feature.

Enjoy!

MINI North Scottsdale charges $46 to program
I had to pay this just for the comfort opening, completly surprised me and didn't think to consider all of my programming options during that service visit.
Didn't have the option upon delivery.
Bad on you MNS!

My MC is a 02/03 build and has all of the above already preprogrammed except for the follow me home lights which I haven't tried.... does this mean that most new mini's come with it pre programmed?
