space on the shift ****.

so here is the 05 shift ****...
and i was wondering if anyone has done any custom jobs on filling that gap on the shifter. It kinda bothers me at times

:P hahha. nothing big but if they're were any nice shift ***** that would cover that gap (if that's a solution) or would i have to get a different boot.

want to make it more like the 07 shifter which seems to have a metal ring around it so its connected quite well :P

haha that space is kinda bothering me . doesn't seem to look as clean as the 05

I think there's enough slack in the stock boot that you can securely fasten it higher up on the shaft to hide the gap.

If you look at Redlinegoods' shift boots for the MINI:

http://www.redlinegoods.com/MINIshiftboot4.shtm

Some of them have a gap, while others have the top of the boot right up against the underside of the shifter, so you can probably set the gap to whatever you'd like when you zip-tie the boot to the shifter shaft.

pull up on the surrounding ring of the shifter base, cut the zip tie that holds the shifter boot to the shift lever, slide it up, attach a new zip tie nice and snug, et voila! you have your solution

I just went out and looked at our cars, and my wife's factory installed boot has a small gap, while my dealer-installed leather boot has no gap - I can't even press it down to make a gap.

I think it all just depends on where you mount the zip-tie when installing the boot. You should be able to eliminate the gap on your boot with just a few minutes' work.

I rather like the large gap, I haven't messed with mine ever, and it's kind of rotated and settled low. I think I need a new digital camera, its 7 years old.

You can see the gap there. The leather has actually kind of stiffened up in that position and is starting to crack in the folds.
