Worst day of my life

So today I was going to put my yellow stripes on my MINI,
I take off the factory bonnet stripes, the first one is okay... the second one on the bottom takes a chunk out of my paint............

There go my viper stripes, the only thing I can think of is just replacing the same bonnet stripes and go over the flake of missing paint.. I have never heard of this happening, so very mad right now.

Oh no!

Did you "cold peel" or were you able to heat up the stripes as you pulled them off?

Looks almost like glue left behind from the stripe! It looks like only the clearcoat came up? Drop by your local autobody shop for an opinion before giving up......

Good luck!

If you rub your fingers over it does it feel like it is raised above the paint like it is some glue on top of the paint or recessed like you peeled off the clear? If it is just glue left behind it will probably come off with some goo gone/zippo fluid.

Are you sure that isn't leftover adhesive from the vinyl? That's what it looks like.

When we took the stripes off, it left a resedue of glue.. so at first we just thought it was a thicker layer but when we got to it it woudln't come off and when I took my fingers through it, it felt like a different layer of paint. We put white vinyl over it but it still left an indentation. Also on the actually bonnet vinyl we took off, it had a small layer of paint on it that matched the flake on the car.

Were going to get thicker vinyl like the factory kind and put it over, but someone in my club, SCMM, said the same thing happened to him but I am pretty sure the clear coat came off.

If it's just the clear coat then it should be a fairly easy fix. I can assume all the white spots are just vinyl flakes not rock chips? Hope you get it fixed up soon, and can still have the option of going witht he stripes you want. This is definately something fixable.

Worst day of my life
If that's true consider yourself lucky.

Haha well I am only 17, but I was being sarcastic. The white spots are the resedue from the glue the vinyl left over.

Thanks for the support.

I think motoringfile had use some product to remove adhesive on paint without issues for a JCW wind install. Actually, I also saw it in MC2 I think like the 3rd issue or something early like that.
