LightnSight

Not sure this qualifies as a mod, but thought I'd relate my experience with the LightnSight Fresnel lens. Just recieved it today. ( took 2 days from Ohio to CT via USPS) Came in a standard #10 envelope. Applied it to the windshield as directed (wet the glass and stick) Drove 12 miles hoping to get stopped at a stop light. Finally did! (irony, usually I hit every light when it is red. This time I had to hunt one down,) looked at the LightnSight without stooping or bending or anything. Just looked up, with my eyes only, to the top of the windshield. I could see the traffic lights with no problem, and more importantly, could see when they changed.

The lens itself is totally unobtrusive and after about 30 seconds, I didn't even see it was there while driving. I am glad I bought 2 (one for my girlfriend's Volvo)

If you are over 5'10", I imagine this will save you from a stiff neck or worse. I am 6'2" and was, until now, constantly crouching down to see the traffic lights.

This did the trick. No more no less and the price was reasonable. I love an elegant solution to a problem.

I had one in my MINI and it was great. I then transferred it to the Lexus and still find it very useful for seeing traffic lights. Big thumbs up in my book!

You use your visor to block it out

Jimz68 (redundantly stated is 6'8") got me interested in trying the LightInSight out. My wife ordered them for all of our cars and I love them (I'm 6'4").

Quick install trick, spray your favorite brand of glass cleaner onto a glass cleaning towel then wipe lightly (read, not wet!) to the light in site smooth surface side. Apply to a clean windshield by starting at one side of the lightinsight and press down with a credit card (or plastic squeegee) to prevent bubbles. Adheres very well this way.

Uhhh, I am 6'2+, I don't use my visor for anything in front of me. If using the visor was an option, I wouldn't need this device, as I could just see the stoplight. So the sun is a problem with this?

Not if your the first spot in line, the LIS is for that purpose not for being 2 or more cars behind the first.

Its not a problem but I dont use my visor at all except to pull it down maybe an inch to block out the sun from the LIS
I'm 6' and have the seat in the lowest position.

I love my LIS! The only time the sun is a problem is when it is behind the light... which would be a problem if I'm looking at the light anyway.

The sun is a problem when facing south on a clear day

It will pick up the sun, or anything vertically above you I guess, but my sunglasses are enough that it didn't bother me. I have only installed it today, and I did get the sun effect, but then when I was travelling north, I didn't, so I guess I deal with that. It does however make my tall life easier for seeing traffic lights, so I am still very happy with it.

I received my LightnSight today. I was surprised by how small the piece actually is. I can't wait to use it!

Had mine for about a year...it takes a little training at first to break the habit of crouching down to look up, but once you learn to rely on it it's wonderful.

I love my LIS. It's a great addition to any MINI.

CTDavid,
Thanx for the great find. This has been a serious ergonomic problem ever since I got the car. It will save me from cursing the entire population of traffic designers and engineers.

I've been to their site, but I could not find where they tell you how much it is? Is this a secret?

Hey CTDAVID, have you figured out the rear view mirror thats in the way. If your driving straight ahead, almost everything from the middle to middle side view seems obstructed by the mirror. Almost if not dangerous. I don't know what to do but getting somewhat what used to it. But still I would rather not have the obstruction. Is there a way to lower the seat so I am more below the mirror?
eetiing .
