You remove the side view mirror glass first. If you have heated mirrors, be very, VERY careful when removing the wires... do not twist the rivet points connecting to the mirror or they will snap off ($80 replacement). You might be able to leave the glass dangling on the wires while you remove the cover... It's preferable to having to remove the wires.

No need to remove the glass first.
Step by step. Enjoy!
Note that some have suggested using one or more butter knives to hold down the tabs during the removal process.

Remove Mini Side View Mirror Glass

How do you remove the glass itself?

The rear view is just a cover that snaps on to the mirror. Easy enough to remove if you don't like it. OEM mirror is black.

Just pops off, pull from the bottom edge in a slightly upward & outward manor, mirror will reach the end of its natural movement & then just pull.

Once you have the caps off once & see how they attach it all becomes painfully simple.

I have a thin piece of plastic that I slide between the cover and the base. The cover pops right off after one tab is released.

Changed mine today, from black to the limited edition Silverstone ones. I used a small ish flat head screwdriver, and a chopstick to ease it off.
