Go to your dealer. They will need to contact MINI USA for the code to deactivate the seat airbags in your computer system. Once that is done, you should be set.

Do a search for threads with after market seats. Most people use a resistor from Radioshack to pluck into the wire for the seat sensors.

Will they really do that? I would love to have the flexibility to change my driver's seat to a better one, but the concern about the airbag lights and the "computer system" have held me back from even starting to think about it much.

Too late to help fozworth, he has to sign the waiver and have the light disabled by the MINI service department. But, if the key is not turned on during the seat swap and the correct resistor placed in the loop, the light will be avoided. http://store.webbmotorsports.com/for...wtopic.php?t=9
You will need a T40 also.

Once the light has come on, it will stay on until reset. Adding a resistor should prevent the light from coming on again, but won't reset it. It can be reset by the dealer or at most shops that service BMW or MINI.

I recently checked with my dealer to see if they would do that. I have a GP and was thinking about trying to get a set of Recaro seats like the rest of the world gets in a GP. My dealer checked and said that that could not be done. I gave them the whole senario of my signing a waver but they were unable to find anyone at MINI who said this was a possibility. If you have more info (I.E. person to contact at MINI who my dealer could call) please advise. Thanks Steve
Also please note that from 2005 and newer the airbag system has changed to include the 12 lb. passenger seat sensor which to my knowledge no one has come up with a "resistor fix" for.

Itch, I'll contact my dealer tomorrow and confirm this can still be done. I get a name for you to contact as well.

I've been thinking about this one. Couldn't you just tapp the wiring look for this circuit and hardwire it closed so that is basically sees the seat as always occupied? Seems like the pressure plate simply closes a ciruit that could be manually "closed" by this technique.

Its sounds to technical for me.Ive found a local company who have designed little fused resistors that plug in under the seat ,then all they do is hook the car up and reset the airbag fault and the resistor cheats the system.£60 all in im told.
