Interior/Exterior Straßentech Front Lip Spoiler Installed
Straßentech Front Lip Spoiler Installed
This past weekend I held a garage clinic at my house to teach my c3 members how to properly care for their MINIs. This involved both washing/detailing as well as general maintenance like oil changes and brake pad replacements.

In my quest to make my MCS a bit different from others, I also got my new Straßentech front lip spoiler installed. I think it looks pretty cool. Got a few more cool mods planned, but just didn't have time to do them yesterday.

I bought it HERE

Thanks! It's very easy to install, and it's solid. And best of all doesn't significantly alter the ground clearance. Before the spoiler, I scraped on speed bumps with my 15" wheels and hSports--I scraped the lower valence portion of the bumper--not the front lip.
So even with the lip in place, I still don't scrape, which I was very pleased to discover!

yep, lookin' good OctaneGuy...i saw this on a MINI here( Bar10girl ) Pm'd her about it, seems like a real NiCE piece....almost makes me wanna get rid of my HAMANN lip
but i've done so much to it to make it fit flush to teh body that i dont noe that i could sell it anymore.
so wat do ya think about how it mounts, how is it solid?!

Seems we posted at the same time. Yeah, I opted for the non carbon fiber one. It matches the existing textured trim perfectly. It's also very light--really didn't add much weight.
It seems very solid. I think there was an option to glue it, but it's just held on with adhesive tape and screws right now, and when I push down on the lip, any give is given by the existing trim to the body, and not the lip to the trim, and even that isn't very much.
Should be good for scoooping the AutoX cones in a couple weeks.

yep we did,its why i changed my question a bit
do u hydrate/clean ur black trim a lot, is that why it matches so well? one of teh things i dont like about mine is that it has to be painted...im currently havin' it redone...colour wise!

Thanks everyone!
The spoiler is painted and textured just like the oem trim, however, for installation, any dressing on the trim had to be removed, so my trim looked pretty grey. I used my favorite rubber/plastic cleaner/dressing known simply as Meguiar's #40. It's part of their professional line.

I have the 16 oz spray bottle, and apply with a rag. Makes any neglected plastic trim look new again. Also removes wax residue that may have gotten on there from previous wax jobs.

Richard, The lip looks awesome. the fit looks perfect. Great taste. Also to say it again. Thank you for all your fantastic detailed (how-to info). You have helped me out so much with my baby. Why am i not surprised that you had a clinic at your house to teach others. Its MINI-acks like you that make this site what it is.

Thanks for the nice comments!
My next mod will be to black out the headlights like how Bar10Girl did. I think that will look sweet on my Jet Black.
Also recently bought a short shift kit--and that'll be going in soon as well. =)

still scratching my head a bit as to how it attaches... but its not so my cup of tea... but hey... minis are about personal expression! why bother with my opinion! it does look good, but i'd like it more if it extended all the way to the two sides
This should help. It's double sided taped and screwed. Screws fit into existing attachment points using longer screws than stock, but in same locations, so no drilling on MINI. I told one person that PMd me that holes were drilled, but from what I understand, the spoiler comes predrilled, so no drilling is necessary. It's just a bolt on piece for a very simple install.

Oh very nice. Yeah that will look pretty sweet. I like the checkered roof---debated about going in that direction, especially after seeing fj0's MCS.

Im having my wheel arches/side skirts/lower front bumper moldings painted to match body color. I wonder how well the sticky tape will hold to paint or vinyl??? and if i wanted to ever take it off, how hard would it be to get the sticky stuff off the paint?
Straßentech mini lip spoiler @ BPS
We are happy to be a new vendor here at NAM and bring this exciting new product to the Mini market. It is available in the very prestigious and exclusive signature Straßentech carbon fiber or a very affordable FRP (fiber reinforced plastic). Below are a couple of pics. You can find the Straßentech mini lip spoiler at our site here.

You can PM us or call us at 805.482.1234 if you have any questions.

Guess the link I put below liked my pix so much they linked it on their site. Don't worry, they did ask me before hand for permission.
I think I heard they are in the process of being a NAM vendor, so I'm hoping they can answer any of the questions people are having.
I have no idea whether the adhesive tape will stick to the painted surface or not, or what type of damage may be cause by removal.

I saw Bar10Girl had a lip that was attached to the existing spoiler. You can barely see it here--I borrowed this from her gallery.

But not a true spoiler replacement. I'd like them to come out with their own rear spoiler as well.

The main set of holes looked like there was a pilot hole that was enlarged to fit the replacement screws.Since you are going to be autocrossing, the two recessed areas on the lip (optional for install) were drilled once it was attached. These DID require drilling on the trim to add the extra bolts.
The standard install did NOT require any drilling on the MINI, just the optional bolts.
I'm sure detailed instructions are to come. I was just an extra pair of hands.

BTW, very easy install. Need two people, but easy nonetheless.
Thanks HandN.
What I meant was that the version I had didn't come predrilled, but I was told today that future spoilers will come predrilled, in case anyone was worried about that. Thanks for telling me about that info though--I had no idea who all were involved during the install!
Yep! We had way too much stuff going on that day anyways! We have to plan another day to do all the remaining stuff! Did you end up buying that bumper from Skitelluride??? I ended up using touch up paint, and did some wetsanding and buffing to blend it--turned out fine enough for me.
Based on this pic, it makes perfect sense why it doesn't go all the way to the edges--it continues the curves of the front end. I think if you wanted to go all the way, then a splitter is probably better suited--as far as looks go. Just my 2 cents.

As one of the hands in that pic, I can say it WAS drilled.

Straßentech mini lip spoiler @ BPS
Hi Everyone,
Someone at BimmerForums asked about how securely the new Straßentech lip is mounted. I thought this info might be helpful here, as well.
The new Mini lip is mounted using 5 provided longer bolts that replace existing bolts and use existing holes, 2 new 8mm bolts & nylock nuts (provided & lip is pre-drilled) and 3m double-sided tape. The mounting method has been designed to TUV specifications.
