Interior/Exterior Air Diverter/Hood Scoop Protective Screen Holder
Air Diverter/Hood Scoop Protective Screen Holder
Like many people here, I was intrigued by the hood scoop screens offered for sale recently by Kenchan and later by Qwertmonkey. I read all the threads about it and decided to get one, plunked down my money, got it a few days later...only to lose it shortly after installing it. Hmmmm, "now why would that fall off?" I asked myself. Well, DUH.
These things fall out at will unless they stuck REALLY tightly between that plastic housing and the opening of the scoop. The best solution is to use cable ties to keep them in place. You can get the ties in most any color, if colored ones are important to you.
I continued my investigation and then remembered that I had recently had an ALTA Air Diverter installed, too. Hmmm...BIG problem...nothing there to hold the screen to the scoop opening. My solution to THAT dilemna is below:
1. Take that plastic housing that's normally pitched after one installs the air diverter [or stores it away for some "OEM parts sale"]. Using a sabre saw, cut the plastic across, 2-3 inches behind the scoop opening, making sure you leave the plastic tabs with the holes on so you can reattach those small nuts when you reinstall your scoop screen and the new "Air Diverter/Scoop Screen Holder".
2. Use a razor blade to trim off any debris from the sabre saw, so ya don't clog up your new air diverter.
3. Use cable ties to attach your scoop screen to your newly-fashioned "Air Diverter/Scoop Screen Holder". I found that two ties in the middle [one up and one down] and two on each end work best. You can use clear plastic on the ends, but if you are color-conscious, better use the colored ones in the middle.
4. Reattach your "AD/SSH" to the underside of the bonnet, using the small nuts you took off originally. To keep them from working loose, use some Lock-Tite.
You are all set to go, and your nifty-looking screen will be safely held in place to protect your air diverter.

nice DIY mod for the diverter!
im sure there are
others that have aftermarket diverters that might have the same issue.
on the factory scoop and diverter the fitment is tight. it won't go
anywhere unless you literally take a long nose and pull it out while
scratching the scoop. lol

btw, your PM box is FULL!
