Roll Bar for the Street

The MINI is a very well built vehicle; the roof and B pillars are more likely keep their integrity in the event of a collision or roll over better than many other cars, or trucks for that matter. This doesn’t mean the body can’t use a little back-up for street use. Here’s a bar Built-By-Bones made for me to add some extra protection over head. This bar is fully functional for street use; it is not a “show bar”.

Looks good.

I also would like to see the details on the mounting points is it welded, or bolted down?

who is "Built-By-Bones" are they an individual or company?

How would I get in touch with them?

Thanks in advance!

Because this is a street vehicle I made this a tidy install from the top side so you won’t see much detail. For the main hoop floorplate a section of carpet has to be removed, for the brace install the exhaust and heat shield need to be removed.

This is a bolt-in bar; Built-By-Bones (Grant Barclay & crew) has an eBay storefront http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-M...7072QQtcZphoto
They are/he is a custom fabricator so a special request like this one is ok. Grant is an avid racer so depending on the time of year an order may take some time.

That's pretty cool. Do you know if this setup would work with a MINI with the sunroof? For some reason, I see different roll bar setups for those with and without sunroofs, so just wondering.

prime-drk-, how many hours for the install? According to my audit it took 45 hrs. not including trips to the powder coater or trips for tools. My assistant (girlfriend) just reminded me she was wearing a flimsy wife-beater, very short shorts, and she was very hot; oops! I mean the weather was very hot and sultry.

OctaneGuy, contact Grant for the answer to the sunroof fitment question. https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ber.php?u=8550

Check with the rule book of the track event's sanctioning body to see what is accepted. Any additional bracing (horizontal, diagonal) whithin the main hoop is a good idea. A roll bar with straight support braces like this design is required under SCCA rules. For a road racing disscussion about that issue look here https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ad.php?t=56264
