Any Interest? Colored Gauge Faces?

Hey Guys,

I am working on a little project. I've been wanting to have colored guage faces for a long time now, but after a lot of promises from different retailers, no one ever seems to complete the project . I have kind of like a "prototype" that I worked on last night. This post is just to see if there is even any interest out there. If not, I will just make them for myself and be happy. If there is significant interest, I'd be willing to make them for others as well.

You would be able to order any color you want. In the picture below, you see two that I printed out while I was testing it. One is Black with red, the other is Blue with yellow.

If you wouldn't mind, please give me some feedback so I can hear what you guys think.

One more thing, these would not be a complete replacement for the current faces on your guages. These are overlays. I will have some pictures of these installed later on today.

Sorry about the poor pictures...I did not put much effort into taking them as I just am posting them to give people an idea.

Here is a picture of one installed:

Keep in mind this only a first version, and this is not the finished product.

I might be interested, depending on cost and install.

Do you have any pictures? Especially in the dark.

Check ^^^ . I think we posted at the same time so you might have missed the pics. There are two in the main post, and another that followed.

Obviously as I get more into the project, I will provide people with MUCH better pictures in different lights, but for right now, this will do.

I edited my post because I saw that. Do you have any pictures at night. Are these just a color layover, or do they light up the different color at night?

Ditto. I worry about the colors showing up when its dark and if there is a possibility of me totally destroying the gauge in the process

Are you planning these only for people with the Chrono pack or are you looking at recoloring the center-mounted speedo and standard tach as well? I'd be interested in a color-flipped one, personally (white numbers on subtly sparkled black, lit up red at night) personally...

Like the others, I wonder about cost and about the possibility of destroying gauges in the install process.

I think that's a slick idea. I'm looking for simple, inexpensive interior mods to do that will set my interior off a little from other MINIs. Some cars now come with contrasting color faces on certain gauges (the new Ferrari 599 with the Yellow tach face comes to mind . .) and I think it's a nice sporty touch. I'd be interested in more details as you work them out.

At least in your first version photograph it looks like in the daytime the gauge would be difficult to read. That is right now.

I'd also be interested depending on cost and install. Have you considered using white for the numbers/dashes/etc. so that its easier to read in the daytime? Oh and, standard tach and speedo on my MCS.

Same here. Cost and ease of install. Risk of ruining the gauges. Otherwise I would be all over a yellow set.

I agree on the visibility issue. In the daytime, I think you really need high contrast- you don't want to add any issues that would add even an extra split-second to your comprehension of the data. Hence, high contrast is a MUST.

I was actually thinking ofthe Ferarri gauges even before someone mentioned that- bright yellow with stark black numerals would be very visable and visually striking. Not sure how they'd light, though, given the stock gauge lighting though.

PS- Mmmmmmm... shift indicator lights on the steering wheel... (( drool ))

I love Ferrari's, my all-time favorite car manufacturer, huge fan. But for my gauges, I was thinking more along the lines of Maserati. It's still a Ferrari isn't it, lol. Blue face with white lines/numbers and the redline in red. Like this:

That was going to my idea....lol. I was going to do blue LED's on the back, white numbers, and red redline. At least now I know I would have had a great looking tac/speedo!
