Installed sunroof deflector

Installed it yesterday and what a difference. Drove to work this morning with the sunroof open and it was nice. The noise was so much queiter that I could listen to the radio without having it turned all the way up. Two little clamps holds it on so if you want to remove it ,no problem. Great improvement for the money. I did not put the brand name because I do not know if any of our sponcers sell them.

William:
I second the request for more info and pictures. I have the sunroof and windows open as much as possible and would love to cut the noise level down.

I guess it would be all right to post the brand as long as I do not put the source. It is a Weather Tech., I will post up some pictures this evening.

I bought it from Macneil Automotive and they are great to do business with. Had it in three days. It is a very well made product and one of the few things that you can put on the Cooper and see a real difference. Before the sunroof was so loud you could not even listen to the radio but now it is fun to have it open. By adjusting the glass from the back to the front you can almost cut the all windnoise out. It is not one size fits all. The product is made for the vehicle. I would not want to cause anyone to buy something that I did not think was a good product. Hope this helps.

If you look at my gallery you can see my wind deflector. Mine is the one MINI sells. It really does make a difference.

Here is a link to it http://www.weathertech.com/store/pro...em_group_id=53 it looks to be $71.95 delivered. It looks like it doesn't stick up as high as the OEM one & may go back farther. It looks good.

p.s...I know I have a convertible but I am always looking at things for my future 2nd Mini which will be a hardtop

William, how hard was it to install? I bought the MINI one and could never get it installed right. I would love to see pictures, especially close-ups of the mounting system. Their site doesn't have instructions for that product, of course...

blalor, I just looked mine and it looks like a S hook just holding down the deflector, while the screw either loosens or tightens it up.

Art, do you have this WeatherTech deflector, or the MINI one? How hard was it to install?

if it's reaching into the car in order to hold itself on... the question comes to mind:
do you have to take this off in order to close the sunroof?

No you do not have to take it off.

It is so simple to install that anybody and I mean anybody can install it.

Looks good, William. I have the factory one and it does look to stick up a little higher than yours. Amazing how it cuts the buffeting, isn't it.

I think the factory one does stick up higher and I think this one covers a little more of the sunroof.

You cannot see it with the deflector on. It just has a j hook. Open the sunroof up and pull down the weatherstrip along the outside edge. Hook the hooks under the edge and put the weatherstrip back in place. The hooks are thin and will fit right inside the weatherstrip.

william,

After having it on for a week or so, can you give an update to the product?

The deflector William installed looks great. I have the Mini factory one and will share the following comments.

1) William's looks better than factory because it is low profile
2) the factory one is much taller
3) William's attaches the same way the factory one does
4) I never drove the car without the deflector I have. To me, even with it there is too much noise with the sun roof open at highway speeds. William says it is quieter with his new deflector. If so, then I can only imagine how loud it must be without the deflector

I have the MINI one and it may not get rid of all the noise but it is quieter than having nothing. I have only seen one other car with a deflector.
