magnetic door guards?

I park in a public lot and thought HEY! i wonder if anyone makes attractive magnetic door 'ding' guards I could put on my car while its parked so the morons who swing their doors into my car wouldnt do damage. I would remove them when I return to my car.

Anyone know of any?

In theory, it is a great idea, but the idiots would just roll their shopping carts into some unprotected area or you'd get some grit beneath the magnet and body and end up scratching the paint. Or worse yet, they'd see how neat your attractive magnetic guards are and take them for themselves.

Best thing is to park at the back of the lot and walk a few more seconds. There is always a fantastic spot way out there.

Just my opinion anyway. . .

There are no "shopping carts" in my businesses parking lot.. so I have no fear there.

And there are no "far away spots".. the lot completely fills and its take what you can get.

And dust wouldnt be a problem since i would just be putting them on a car that isnt going to move...and i would be the one removing them.

Yucca is referring to the dust that will be on the car when you apply the magnets. You would need to be sure to use a California duster type cleaner to the area prior to every application of the magnets. Just the pressure of the magnets onto the paint will grind any grit into the finish, moving or not.

I put magnets on my other car on a regular basis (bumper sticker type things) but have always made sure to clean off the car and the back of the magnet first. So far, the finish has not sustained any damage, but I have been diligent!
Good luck.

Don't know if they work, though. Let us know if you try them.

$70 for magnetic pillows... God bless America, baby. At least you can drop one end of the cable into the door so nobody can steal them..

Something like this only seems practical for those really tight spaces but not everyday use. Though in Germany, all parking spaces are tight. We don't exactly have an abundance of SUV's to make large parking spots like US.

Pretty cool that the site has a picture of the MINI using the door fenders.

These aren't magnetic, but you could either possibly MAKE them magnetic via sheets of self-adhesive magnet material, or you can just permanently affix them after painting them satin black or some other color that matches your car...
