Mounting a MP3 player (NOT iPod)...

Gasp! Yes, I have a MP3 player and YES, I decided to break from the herd and buy an iRiver instead of an iPod...

Of course, now there are a metric ton of mod products for the iPod, while the iRiver languishes, but the thing still works wonderfully and, best of all, it has a corded remote control unit that makes changing out tracks a snap (which is needed, since only iPods work with the steering wheel-mounted stereo controls... feh...).

I have the AUX cable installed and currently I just put the unit in my cup holder with the remote clipped across the switch bar (I cover the rear fog light switch, which isn't installed), and that works, but what I'd really like to do is something more like this:

Has anyone seen or has tips on how one might fabricate something like this? This has a stalk of some kind that must attach to the tach or something...

FYI- here are the specs for my player:

105 x 60 x 19 mm

Thanks!

Might this be what your'e after?

here's another install

Lots of other choices here.

Or why don't you fabricate a bracket that you can screw into stereo fascia screws behind the down-tubes. Then mount a universal bracket (like a wide-phone one...?

if you don't want to make one yourself, you could order one from here.

It's not original, but it seems to work nicely....The only real challenge being that it could be hard to find a universal holder that's wide enough for your iRiver.

Or here's another idea....

More photos at the bottom of this page.

And one more.

Something like this would be perfect, yes, provided I can get it in the US. Heck, I could fabricate one if I had the dimensions... looks dead simple:

Or you could adhere it to the carpet by your handbrake like I did.

yeh, you can buy a sheet of plastic and just fabricate one... cut, drill, done.

LOL... it's like $68 by the time you figure in the cost of the unit plus shipping from the UK. I don't THINK so. Seems like I can just remove the tach, measure the distance between the screws and fabricate...

EDIT: Been checking gauge pod installations- I didn't realize that the tach has two mounting screw holes right in the backside... I thought for some reason that such things screwed down into the steering column. Spiffy. This is so doable. I just need to find the right material to start with. Plastic's an option, as is some sort of metal, provided I can get access to metalworking tools.
