side marker removal question...

i just bought a pair of clean bumper end trims...
to replace the US spec w/ lighted side markers...

here's my question...
can i remove these pieces of trim without removing the bumper?

based on the photo on this site:

http://mini.uglydoris.com/archives/000020.html#
(see image labeled as "view of the inside of the bumper cover")

it looks like i can... opinions? experiences?

you need to remove these two screws then you can yank these suckers off. I simply took the bumper cover off to make my life easier though. Hope this helps.

You want to remove the long amber side markers right?? Not the blinker lights. Either turn the wheels inward or take them off of the car and remove the two plastic screws (inside wheel well) closest to the side marker, pull back and then remove the wiring and the two cheap nuts holding the side markers in.

i think he is talking about replacing the USDM fender arches (side marker light included) with the european fender arches (sans side marker lights)

exactamundo, lex... wiping those guys out. i understand the safety issue but i feel as far as other drivers go i have enough light coming off of the side grill blinker and from the headlights... leaving the rear ones on for tail view. plus i don't mind the rears since they're red but the fronts are orange.

btw-thanks for the clarification on the removal...

side marker lens (front arch) delete

i did it... i love it.

1. follow these instructions on how to take the front bumper cover off:
http://mini.uglydoris.com/archives/cat_howto.html

2. now, unscrew the bolt holding the side marker panel to the front bumper cover. (as mentioned by lagston...)

3. pop this section around the front bumper.
it's a little blurry but once your there you'll figure it out. the circled section is what would be the bottom of the panel.

4. push the panels out. this may require a little bit of force. go one "clip" at a time.

5. snap in the new panel.

6. put the front bumper cover back on. be sure to wrap the side marker panel back around this piece. i highlighted it in red...

done!

one more thing...
don't forget to tape up the old bulb sockets!

glen,
did you ever end up replacing your rear arches, or did you just do the fronts? I didn't have time this weekend to replace my rears, just wondering if you had recommendations to taking off the rear ones.
thanks
O
ps - nice ride... i love how clean the car looks with the euro arches

I saw glenn's MINI in person yesterday. The new front arches look really good. I'm not sure if I'll wind up doing this, but I am contemplating it after seeing the parts in the flesh.

Hey all!
i didn't do the rears... im a little concerned w/ the safety factor. it's hard to see the mini as it is for many larger cars on the road plus having an all black mini i worry even more at night... so many bad drivers out there.

anyhow...
i bought the parts here... be sure to specify your build date when ordering:
http://www.newministuff.com/new/shop...uctshow&id=198

i havent inspected/researched the rear removal... i'd imagine it wouldn't be too much harder. btw-you can actually remove these arches w/ out removing the whole front bumper cover... but i wanted to take it apart to have a look see for myself. i would think one would require more wrestling w/ the bumper cover if you left it on.

good luck!
i'd love to see someone w/ the rear's deleted...
happy motoring!
-glen

hey dave, that's glen w/ one 'n.'
