Rectangular switch hole on left side of Euro Shelf

There is a rectangular hole on the left side of the Euro shelf that looks like it is for an electrical switch. Might anyone be able to tell me what it is sometimes used for? I've received the shelf and it came with a plastic insert to cover the hole, but the heck with that, I'm gunna put a switch in there for sure. Just don't know what I might use it for just yet. LOL

And then again, does anyone have any particular place they might point me for directions on installing the shelf? TIA

The hole is meant for the driving lights switch.

I thought the hole was for the thumb wheel roller for the manual headlight leveling system the euro cars have. The switch for the driving lights is just a little small when compared to the blanking plate.

Now the actual question is showing up...
that hole is for the button to arm the factory driving lights. When I installed the parcel shelf, I had to bend out a little the clips that hold the button in place, but it fits fine.

That's where I put the PIAA driving light switch/button.

Officially the hole is for a headlight levelling control in Euro cars. The driving light switch 'roughly' fits in the hole, but you have to splay out the metal retaining clips to get it to stay in place.

Hmmm... I wonder how hard it would be to retrofit the manual headlight levelling control into a USA model?

I doubt installing the manual leveling control would work since the US versions have sensors on the LF & LR suspension that take care of it automatically. You'd also need to find a way to override the sensors. Since the US version has automatic leveling and they do a good job, I have to ask why you would want to install manual control.

I'm just curious, that's all... it seems like another neato gadget, and I love gadgets.

If the USA system is a complete replacement (using the sensors you described), then it is moot, because I don't want to rip out anything in order to put it in.

So then if the driving light switch is a tad small for the parcel shelf hole, then where is the hole it is designed for ?

There isn't one. The light kit comes with a template - that a few techs I know have a hard time staying inside the lines of :~)

There is an area on the original knee bolster that gets cut out to fit the switch. And yes, a lot of the installations I have seen (including mine from the dealer) are hacked out a bit bigger than they should be. Look at the backside of the knee bolster and you will see a recess. It's in that area where a template is provided so the outer plastic layer can be cut to fit the switch.

I found a red, lighted (when on) toggle switch at Radio Shack which
fit the hole in the Euro shelf perfectly.

I used the template for the (OEM driving light) switch cut-out in the stock knee bolster and applied it to the knockout/blank on my wifes MCC pacel tray when I installed her OEM driving lights. Dremmel tool and a file and it looks like it came that way from the factory.

There was someone who posted here several months ago who "extended" the factory driving light harness and mounted his switch in the perfectly sized blank in the console beside the e-brake handle - but I digress.
