new fog lights

Just thought I share some pics of the extra fog lights I installed in my wife's MC. I used a pair of old PIAA fog light I had laying around that was meant to go in my other car but end up fitting just right in the Mini. I used the PIAA harness so it can be switched on/off independently. The "rings" or flange, where the piaa's are mounted on, are the same ones used by a lot of the BMW M5s as cold air intake ducts. You can get them at your local hardware store under plumbing section.

Here are some pics.

With the headlights, oem fog lights and the piaa lights turned on, it gets pretty bright. But this might be a good mod for those who wants to remove the oem fog lights to do a brake duct mod through the oem fog light hole.

Let me know what you guys think.

When a mod looks like it came from the factory that way, then you know everything is dialed in.

Good job.

Looks good!

....but do you happen to have any more photos of the plumbing parts of which you speak or the rest of the install process?

Thanks fellas. Glad to see some positive responses. When I first thought about it, I was concerned not to block any airflow to the radiator but the area that I cut actually was blocked off already. So with this mod, it actually provided a lil bit more air flow than what I had originally.

In regards to the plumbing parts, its specifically just a sink drain. Its made out of aluminum (i think) and has about 3.25" opening where the PIAA will be centered in. I don't have a picture of the part by itself but here is another picture of it installed without the piaa.

Some tips/pointers:
1. Find a good spot to relocate your outside temp sensor. This is easy.

2. Cut the bumper plastic grill just enough for the sink drain to fit snugly and tight. Start with 3" and dremel away a little bit at a time to enlarge it.

3. After you center the piaa fog lights in the sink drain, mark and drill holes to mount the piaas. Then apply a generous amount of silicone all around the inner ring face of the sink drain.

4. The fog lights that I used is the PIAA 004X

You can use any fog lights you want to as along as it will fit within the 3.25" opening. I like the 004x because the depth of it is just right to make the fog lights almost flush to the face of the grills.

Hope some of this info helped.

wow nice! i got the EXACT same set of lights, but i replaced the lamps with yellow ones at the OEM location... too bad its a bit too big for the oem spot, but most of it does get out to the front of the car and it does light up a bit

i am not going for performance with this mod, just looks, and i do get good compliments on them!

as you can see, a bit of stray light into the rad...

Looks good, I especially like that you now have to sink drains mounted to your car. Nice use of parts.

They are mounted to the sink drain flange which is attached/sliconed to the grill.

I love this mod. It looks great, and very creative use of materials.

Now, somebody needs to be the first to use a flange with the brand stamped on: IN-SINK-ERATOR.

Do you get any shake on the light or is it pretty solid?

I dont get any shake on the lights at all. The key to it is making sure to just cut the mesh just enough so the flange will go through it real snug, almost very tight fit. The silicone application is only there for security but it is really the tight-fit mounting that keeps it preety solid.

thanks again for all the positive responses
