Roof color change

Right now I'm really just curious, but how easy would a roof color change be?

As far as i see it there are two options.

1.) Vinyl the entire roof and get a matching colored spoiler. But the question arises, will it maintain a gloss that looks like it is true paint, or would it be obvious that its just a full vinyl roof. This may also be pretty expensive. I did my own checkered roof, but i think i might need to go to a proffesional to have this one installed due to its larger more complex shape. And a full roof vinyl isnt exactly cheap from some places.

2.) Paint it. Its really not that big or complex, so maybe it doesnt cost as much as i would expect Anyone have an approximation of price for painting the roof?

Of course matching mirror caps would be necessary but those are pretty easy to come by.

I would paint it and consider the Chrome mirror caps.

Vinyl will always look like vinyl. If you really want the roof to look "original" then there really isn't a substitute for real paint.

Yeah i was thinking that also, and it would look a lot better if you paint it. What color are you considering?

Do you have a Sun Roof? this makes it a....pain...to saythe least but it can be done...figure worst case...prolly 400 and it should be smooth as glass....

Black roof and chrome mirrors, no sunroof. This would be on the MCS that i'm planning on ordering....just trying to see if it would be possible to get a royal gray with black roof since its not available from MINI (for some odd reason). I really think it would look great.

Anyone have any idea how much it would cost?

don't know how much it would cost, but it would look killer. One of my hang ups with the RG was the fact that there was no option for a black roof.

Now that I have seen RG/RG in person, it's all good, the car looks great in the one color. But yeah, i would still love the black roof as well.

If you are not getting the sunroof, it should be a little easier...i say go for it & post pics! The vinyl will look great for about 6 months or so...and you will always have to be super careful with it....

also remember, vinyl only last 5-6 years, then it needs re-done. so after two sheets and the cost to get it applied, it would be cheaper to just get it painted.

Sounds awesome though

I was going to guess the $400-$500 range as well... Probably on the lower side.

I was going to guess closer to $700 at a reputable shop - variables do enter into it, i.e. sunroof, etc. - but I'd suggest having them shoot the mirror caps at the same time - shouldn't be too tough and wouldn't add hardly any cost at all if done at the same time. . .

Should look nice, though.
