Questions on this stripe

Is this an OEM stripe from factory? Just saw this at a long beach mini, they're asking for $1495 for this stripe.

They are insane to ask that much. Contact one of the graphic designer vendors here for a MUCH better price. . . I bet you could have those stripes for 1/10 the price!

Or if you are really smart, you'd just go to a local sign shop and ask them to cut you 20 feet of adhesive vinyl 18 inches wide and pay about $20 for it. You can buy 36 inch wide rolls of that vinyl in bulk from those sign shops and that would be even cheaper. Cut it in half and slap it on!

Is that protective plastic over them or is that some sort of odd frost effect?

It is only a joke on the poor sucker that ends up paying this much for a few bucks worth of vinyl!

If it is an actual paint job, then it is a terrible one if the clearcoat is damaged. . .

Fine, I will be the decending opinion. Cause what would NAM be if someone didn't disagree?

Here goes: that stripe rocks. It is the most original, wild thing I have ever seen. And for $1495 I surely would be the only one to have it on my car.

We used to call this kind of creativity, "too cool for you" ideas Some people have no sense of restraint (or taste) Spare the Mini this kind of abuse...
Oh...I'm also mad at my self for not knowing there's market for bad taste...$1400 bucks! I sure could use that! Reminds me of the "worst dressed" catagory at the Oscar. Money can't buy you good taste but bad taste can always make money

We'll probably never know. All the negativity has probably scared of the OP. My guess is that the pictures don't do it justice. They make it look like a dual black stripe set-up that was installed about as badly as can be and is now bubbling in more places than it isn't.

I'm all for seeing different things people do to cars (even MINI's) and attempting to appreciate them for what they are. If we get a chance to actually see this one for what it is maybe it'll end up being ok?

I still want to know if this is just a set of very wide black vinyl stripes that has some odd protective sheet over it (like on the screen of a new cell phone or electronics display) or if it is painted to look like that or if it is purposefully made to look like it is covered with wrinkly plastic wrap?

If it is supposed to look like stripes with a wrinkly layer of plastic wrap on top then it is the sweetest set of wrinkly plastic wrap stripes I have ever seen!

Looks to me like poorly squeeged vinyl, with the clear plastic application layer still on there.

The splotches are far too inconsistent to be normal deterrioration, imho.

I agree with Wagnbat

Vinyl that hasn't been squeegied or poor squeegy job and application layer not removed.

Wider than Mighty Stripes Viper stripes.

Not necessarily ugly.... Not my style either. If I were to do such a stripe I would have them go over the scoup and then cut and tucked back inside the scoup.

Would rather see pix after squeegied and application layer removed.

i wouldnt say its totally ugly..........

it looks like a wet on wet ( paint ) technique called marbling. not an easy task to accomplish, hence the price point!!!!
its done w/saran wrap (i think thats how its spelled) or a clear plastic trash bag..........
its not so bad its jus the wrong colour on the wrong colour car....
the car looks to be that purple tint
plus the photo does it no justice.......if there is any!?!?
