Anthracite tach trim ring

It has been reported on MotoringFile and NAM that cars with Piano Black or anthracite interiors are now being shipped with tach trim rings in anthracite instead of the standard silver. RealOEM now lists a part number for the anthracite tach (or tach/speedo for Nav): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.d...20&hg=62&fg=05. Unfortunately though, it shows anthracite available only with the entire instrument, not just the trim ring. An anthracite (or silver) trim ring cannot be purchased separately from the entire instrument. Only chrome is listed for a separate trim ring by itself.

I was optimistic for awhile but I guess I'll end up painting my tach/speedo trim to match other anthracite parts.

I like your line of thinking; the silver tach ring does look kind of dumb in the anthracite cockpit. I'm sure if anyone figures out how to buy just the ring, NAM will be the first place to hear about it!

1 problem... i think it will look horriblely goofy... without an anthracite steering wheel... overwise I would have painted mine to match...

In an anthracite interior (without chrome), the silver on both the steering wheel and tach ring look out of place. But to me the silver tach ring stands out like a particularly glaring mismatch because all the other trim rings in the car (5 on the front dash plus the shifter ring and a few other places) are anthracite.

Honestly though I haven't seen the new anthracite tach ring in person. Since cars now apparently come with it from the factory, each of us will have a chance to see and decide whether it really does look better.

My 06 came ith anthracite ring trim which I REALLY like as I have the anthracite roofliner and dash.

I was also pleased to see the pilars and door panels with anthracite ro replace the silver I saw on the test drive 05 MCS.

Unfortunately the wheel is still silver but I really have never noticed it so to me it's not that glaring of a difference - but now that you mention it...it would be even better if that were anthracite!

I initially thought I'd go for the Chrome line interior but after I actually got the car I would not even consider it. Hopefully it will become available to all.

Yeah, I'm a bit perplexed about the article on MotoringFile. I'm fairly certain that the Piano Black interior is getting delivered with anthracite tach rings. However for regular anthracite interiors, new delivery photos I've seen still show the silver tach ring. Even the picture linked in the article shows a chrome, not anthracite ring.

My dealer just started to get cars with anthracite tachs in.

THankfully, mine was not one of them! I have the Park Lane dash, and I will be using some Autometer Ultra Lights...which would not really match the anthracite tach!

Is the tach trim ring easy to remove for painting?

I want an anthracite tach ring. And I had hoped the news that they are available is true.

Anybody have any updates here? As I'm also interested in an antharcite tach ring. So was this just a rumor and nothing more?

Here's a pic (by NAM member 4RETECH) of the anthricite front ring clearly visible on the speedo (nav equiped) with the piano black dash and no chromeline.

And the anthriacite ring shown more clearly on both the tach and the speedo of Melissa's (from motoring underground) MCS with piano black dash and no chromeline.

Thanks Dave.

Do you know who carries the ring and if it's an easy DIY swap? I'd like to order one. I suppose I could PM those two for more info unless they or anybody else with the info chimes in.

I'd also be interested in finding out if anyone was successful in getting an anthracite steering wheel too. That would really complete the anthracite interior.

Thanks again Dave.

From the realoem link in the first post it does look like MINI has a totally separate tach for the chromeline interior and only with that tach can you order the chromeline ring separately. Otherwise, if you want the silver or anthracite ring, it appears that the only way to get it would be to order the entire tach assembly.

Has anyone called a parts department yet to confirm that?

i guess im the only one that likes the silver rings on the tach.
i dont want it another color cause i want it to match the stalk and
steering wheel.

my other rings are painted graphite.... i just took them off and used
some duplicolor graphite enamel.

im trying to cover most of my interior stuff with pw vinyl. mainly the dash and the rings.
should be a fun project to do.

but they should have made everything anthracite. the silver throws it off.
im not sayin that the silver is ugly. i just wanted it to be anthracite. oh well. it'll be pw soon enough.
