I'm interested, depending on terms... can we order custom patterns? what finishes? etc.

DITTO - assuming I can specify a particular design (something easy that Doug has already made, but with a combination surface of bead-blasted bottom half and a brushed top).

Thanks for all the interest, folks!

I'm not sure that I can do any special deals at this time, though.

I only have a few ***** on hand at the moment, and I've run out of the stainless steel ***** that I make them with (though I have more of them on order).

To further complicate things, my biggest industrial customer is poised to drop a huge order of tool and die work on me (my bread & butter).
When that happens, I'll be working like a madman on that stuff, and I'll be doing well just to keep up with the day-to-day shift **** orders.
(Not many folks are aware, but the ***** are a sideline business for me; industrial machine work is my "day job").

I'll see what I can do, though. If I can manage it, perhaps an "after Christmas sale".

Thanks again!!

Doug-

Thanks for responding so quickly to this thread. I wasn't even sure you DID Group Buys, since this is a sideline biz for you.

If I can manage it, perhaps an "after Christmas sale".
Yes Please!! I AM TOTALLY DOWN with this idea!! hint, hint....

"Group Buy" is probably an erroneous term, I suppose.
My special deals usually involve free engraving for a limited time. The term "sale" is probably more appropriate.

I have to admit that marketing isn't my bailiwick.
Machining things is my forte; the other stuff, I just make up as I go!

I just picked up my '06 MCS last week, and am definitely interested if this happens (I like the "standard" design in the brushed finish, but am also interested in a custom "Z" for Zephyr, the name of my Mini). Please put me on the list and PM me if it does happen...

Thanks!

I'd have to say that Doug Whalen was a pleasure to work with. I live in Germany and bought mine a few months back. There were concerns on the design that I wanted, and wanted to make sure he engraved it the way I wanted. I called on a couple of ocassions and he was more than willing to help. He does ask a lot for his work, BUT WELL WORTH IT!!!!! And the packaging is pretty impressive. I can tell by speaking with Doug and looking at the work, he puts a lot of quality into it. He takes pride in the product he produces. Even if it's a small discount he offers, it's still a great deal knowing that you are getting a product that he takes pride in making. Remember, he is doing this as a side job, and the quality is of top notch!

Keep up the great work Doug!

Not to take this too far off topic, Whalen have you ever looked at doing a parking brake handle to match your shift machine? Maybe the park machine?

Actually, I promised to develop a parking brake handle to match the ****, over two years ago!

I did manage to play around with a prototype a few months ago; but then I got busy with other things. The project has been in limbo ever since.

It's like the bathroom remodeling job that I started six years ago.
You know how, once a job sits unfinished for awhile, the urgency seems to go away?

I just need to build a fire under myself, and get the handle developed.

I know what will happen; I'll finally get it done, and then I'll kick myself in the rear end for not getting it done sooner.

Well I know that I would jump quickly on that band wagon if you do get one developed. The shift machine is a work of art, and I have never been able to find a parking brake piece that would do it justice. To be able to have a shift machine and park machine customized and matched would be the bomb!
