Modding computer to show current gear

--Has anyone tried modding the computer to show what gear you're in? This would be for people with automatic trannys. I'd like to see what gear the computer is putting me in while I'm in D. It shows you the gear in Manual but not in D or SD. I've seen this for other cars with auto tranny's and I think it's helpful to know if your tranny or your computer isn't shifting the MINI appropriately. It would be one more piece of input we could give our MA's if our cars are having problems. I'd like to know if this is possible, or if anyone has experimented with this? Thanks one and all.

The automatic gearbox is a CVT, it does not have fixed gears when in D or SD. In manual mode the gears are simulated ratios 1->6.

When in D or SD it is not like a traditional 4 speed box, it has an infinite amount of ratios so probably won't make sense to display what 'gear' it is in.

Pyratio has a 6-speed automatic, not a CVT.

Actuallly there are 2 types of CVT's that I am aware of. One like your describing continiously changing no "gears" but there is another that has conical or helixial (spelling is not my strong suit) gear which has mid "gears" which allow for constant power but still have "gears"....

I don't know what the CVTs the mini's have but if its the first type you cant do it. If its the second i am sure it there is a way.

I too have often thought this would be nice to know. I'm not sure why, but since the computer can tell me almost everything else, it seems like I should know this as well.
