Interior/Exterior stereo and speakers
stereo and speakers
I want to replace the factory speakers in the Mini S I do not have the HK just the plain jane stereo.
Does anyone have any suggestions Im not looking for anything crazy just a better sound. The factory speakers sound a little muffled cant hear the highs and lows to well.
Be honest I dont even know what size speakers are in the mini from the factory.
Like I said nothing crazy just some aftermarkets for relatively cheap would be great

Either Polk or Infinity. Just be sure to change them all with the same brand/model....Best change you can make to a car stereo in my opinion. It really takes very little (clean) power to run a car stereo (in my opinion). Especially if your music choice does not run to heavy bass...
I think the standard system with upgraded speakers will suit 90% of owners, no bragging rights, just good sound.
Cheers

Also, the more efficient a speaker is, the better, if you are going to keep the head unit. I know Crutchfield lists the efficiency of their speakers, rated in decibles. The more decibles a speaker can pump out when compared to a competitor at the same volume level, the more efficient it is.
Speakers that require lots of power, or are inefficient, might drain more of your head unit's power than your stock speakers did, which could result in distortion and/or clipping. (Unless, of course, you add some other amplifiers somewhere inline).

FRONT: Infinity 6002si COAXIAL 6 1/2" shallow mount.....no need to wire a separate crossover, and I left the stock 1"tweeter connected Rear: left the stocks as is
the above was my post from that other thread. I found the Infinity's to be much much more clear than the stock speakers....crisp and no problem with volume,.....very efficient, plenty loud with little distortion
as with any and all aftermarket speakers going into the front doors in the MINI, you will need to come up with some spacers to make them fit so they do not impact the window mechanism

Bump for Infinity speakers. That's what I used in my 91 300zx (replaced Bose) and have been very happy with them. Very clean and crisp with decent bass (if your taste runs to Rap, you might want to invest (?) in a giant subwoofer or something to drown out the actual music).

I would highly recommend Diamond Audio speakers. I replaced the front components and the rear 6x9's with their 300 series speakers and have been very impressed. Great clear sound without being overly bright. Not as pricey as MB Quartz, but nearly the same sound in my limited listening.
Be careful of choosing just based on efficiency. Though it is true in general that a more efffecient speaker will sound "louder" given a particular amprage, at a set load (read: Ohms), it by no means makes it a better speaker. Some can be overly bright and harsh especially with the over blown treble most factory HU's provide. Being a home audiphile nut, I have been through this myself.
Just my .02 cents.
