How do I get European accessories in the States?

Found a rear view mirror cover with a union jack over on MINI2. Even have a part number for it, 51 16 0 407 139, but it appears to be a European only accessory. Anyone know of a dealership on the other side of the pond willing to ship to the US?

The link to the thread discussing it is here...

Man thats hot But I wonder if it would be cheaper to have a local vinyl guy cover your current one in vinyl . I saw one vinyl job cover the hood scoop in vinyl.

Please post his reply, I would really like one of those myself; the perfect companion to my Union Jack exterior mirror caps.

There are 2 part numbers. One is pre '04 models without autodimming mirror and the other is '05+ with autodimming mirrors. The number listed above is for '05 cars.

I have the same one, except I ordered one custom made from Japan about 1 year ago ... cost me about $90 for it at the time.

Local people wanted a lot more to make a custom one with a vinyl layover.

I am sure in some weeks, they will show up around the web.

Your best bet is to PM the member on Mini2 that bought it and see if he can help you get one shipped over.

Which bulbs are you using? They have three options and I am totally confused!

I did not change the bulbs, only the tail light body - to get the yellow top filter instead of red ...

I really don't like that the rear indicator lights in my '06 blink red. Can I put a yellow bulb in the light and have it blink orange at least? Or does the lens just eat up any color change?

I highly doubt that the change to a yellow bulb will be noticible through the lense. Though I have no data to prove it.

About the union jack rear view mirror cover. I just called my local Mini dealership(irvine bmw). I gave them that part number. and they said they could order that part. They quoted me $85. FYI.

Ian, you apparently bought when the exchange rate was better. If I read correctly, your blog shows you paid $129. The conversion currently stands at $156.40! However, when pricing them back in April they were even more!

I've been salivating for these for months and I'm finally getting ready to order now.

BTW, just to verify, this includes the entire light assembly, right? Even the circuit/socket board for the bulbs to plug into? I have an '05 with the "board", but I'm selling my stock ones and I want to make sure I don't sell more parts than I should.

My $129 was a guess really; unsure exactly what I was charged

I think the units are *only* the actual plastic taillight body - no circuit board or bulbs. I thought I had pics of the un-fitted unit, but apparently I did not put them up on the web.
I can check if you want to see what parts I have removed ...

It took me calling six Mini dealerships in the UK until I found one that will send parts to the US. I would like to change the lower seat assembly cover back to the way the rest of the world Minis are. Also I would like to change the rear tail lamps.

For those who are interested in the 05 and later rear lamps, there are two versions, one for the Cooper and one for the Cooper S. The Cooper lamps have an amber indicator lens with a clear bulb, while the Cooper S lens is clear at the top and used an amber bulb.

OK back to European dealerships. So I finally find a dealership but they won't take a credit card number from the US anymore. I was informed by the guy at the parts counter than no Mini dealership's in the UK will take a credit card number from the US anymore due to security reasons. I was also told that I will have to arrange for my own shipping. And the dealership wanted me to pay the VAT.

I will find my seat covers somewhere. I guess my next step is to phone a Mini dealership in Germany and hope I find someone that speaks English

For the union jack mirror cover at newministuff, it is for the pre facelift model, meaning the pre-05 (smaller) ones (if I'm not mistaken).

I also got the euro style rear light (same as yours, Ian) with orange signals, but I bought it OEM directly from Mini dealer from Hong Kong, when I was there almost a year ago. Each set comes with the housing and the circuit board and all bulbs. It's plug and play.

I just looked at a US spec tail light - and it is the whole assembly. It includes the lens housing, the molded plastic piece with the circuits/bulb sockets, and the bulbs.

....but that is the US spec one. It is also possible that there are different part numbers that enable you to purchase just the lens housing unit.
