Parcel Tray & driving light switch

Has anyone who has the factory driving lights (with the switch on the left side of the steering wheel) also installed a parcel tray? It's difficult to tell from the aftermarket folks whether or not the tray will accommodate the switch.

Also, does the tray fit properly?

Thanks

Earl Grey

Yes to all questions. If you have the factory driving lights, you don't need the "blanking plate" which covers the hole for the driving light button.
I had no problems with the tray fitting.

Yes, it accommodates the switch and fits perfectly. It is the best thing I have seen for drivers convenience.

parcel tray pops right in.

Also, as mentioned above, theres a black spot with a removable plate for mounting accessories like driving light switches.

The switch that came with our OEM lights was exactly the size to fit the blank in the e-brake console, but too small to fit the cutout on the left side of the parcel tray. I used the supplied template to mark out the blank filler and used a dremel, file and x-acto knife to cut out the blank filler so the switch fit perfectly. Looks factory installed.

Where is the cheapest place to buy the parcel tray these days? Also, does anyone find that the parcel tray reduces legroom (I'm 6'2", and I have trouble with legroom in many cars.)

Thanks.

Euro shelf close-up, from GBMINI#2:

Leg room not an issue either:

The rally light switch is a bit loose in the euro shelf position - the space is designed for manual levelling xenon control - but the switch can be persuaded to fit and looks good there.

No, the parcel shelf actually increases legroom. The stock bolster is a smooth curve down, the shelf cuts chunks out of the curve.

I used the button that was already there. It fits perfectly in the hole but didn't want to lock in. I bent the metal retaining clips out a touch and it hasn't moved in over 2 years.

Parcel shelf definitely increases leg room.

Anybody try out the myminiparts.com parcel tray that's covered in spray-on felt in lieu of using the rubber? I don't know if it's worth saving $20 for something that may start falling off in the not-too-distant future.

FYI - their shipping costs are pretty cheap: $5 for orders up to $150 vs. the $10.95 that outmotoring.com was going to charge to ship to me in NJ.

Thanks!

I just rec'd my euro parcel tray from Classic and I installed it tonight. Took me a few tries to get the old one out as I did not want to crack anything.

The euro shelf snapped in at the bottom ok and the left side screw took 10 seconds. The right side screw took me a while and right when I was totally frustrated, I managed to get it to catch. Of course doing it at night with a flashlight may have may it more difficult

I have to say I have been holding off doing th e euro parcel shelf as I like the "rounded/completed" look of the US knee bolster compared to the pix I have seen on line of the parcel shelf. After installing it, my initial impression is it shoud be a standard feature on all MINIs along with Ian's auto up on the windows.

I wonder if it is not on the US cars for knee protection or the lawyers fearing that something can be "launched" at the driver. In either case, I don't care and I like it!!!

$80??? Where did you get your's? I paid about $43 for mine from a local dealer on a group buy - but did not buy the $$$ liner. One of our local members creted a template and makes a liner out of a rubberized fabric tool drawer liner that works just as well for $2.
As far as the tray goes, I agree that it is a worthwhile mod since the little storage tray under the toggle bank doesn't hold much, and the glove box (w/organizer) fills up quickly.

classic, it was aobut 82 bucks after tax.

i bought a factory liner, i spent the extra money so i dont have a hokey looking home made liner in there. some things i dont mind making (intake for example) but i just wanted a nice clean look. plus, it has little dividers to gold chage down.

I wanted to see if anybody ran into the same issue I did when I was installing my parcel shelf. I have the MINI driving lights and the parcel shelf has a place on the left side where the switch fits beautifully. My issue is that the wiring is just barley long enough for the switch to make it over to the switch blank on the left. I now have a little green box that hangs down a bit and I'm concerned that I will damage sometime while driving. Anybody run into these one and have a solution? I thought about splicing wire in to make the wires a bit longer and then worried about my warranty.

Bob

The wires of my driving light harness reach fine - if you fancy taking the shelf off again you might find the wires are tied back somewhere and can be released to get extra slack.
