real CF splitter / Split shipping cost

I want to buy a splitter from Austrailia but the shipping is a killer, $240 ( for shipping ) If I can find someone to buy one at the same time we can save shipping costs by splitting the shipping fees. Its only slightly more to ship 2 than it is to ship one.

Its a really nice heavy duty real cf splitter. I am sure you have seen pix of it before. I am attaching 2 pix.

Let me know if you are interested, it would be best if the other person lives in LA so we dont have to ship one of them again.

its not the m7 one but it is similar. I really dont know how to calculate the shipping since one of us would recieve both and have to ship th eother out. Its hard to say what it would cost to ship youone without having one to ship.

what is the cost for this splitter? M7 is in southern CA and if this is the same thing, they have it for $299. You should talk to M7 about it. It may make more sense to buy it local, no worries about damage from shipping from Australia. just a thought.

Its $220 for the splitter, I thought I put that in but I didnt.

The one I am looking at is real cf all the way through and its thicker/more heavy duty. Dont get me wrong, I really like the one from M7 but I like this one better.

Wow.

If it's $220, for the whole thing, and it includes the mounting hardware, and is 100% carbon fiber, Peter will have some competition on his hands.
I have the M7 Splitter and would perfer it to be 100% carbon fiber.

Plus, Peter charges $299 ($79 buckaroo's more)

Its $220 but the shipping is really high. The splitter comes with mounting hardware but not the turnbuckles. Thy have no supplier down under for the turnbuckles. The guy told me he had to source them from the us and its expensive. Cheaper for us to get the turnbuckles here.

It's small enough area to function properly, and not flex though...

You know guys...I've had my M7 splitter for a couple years now and it's been nothing but great. It's thin and strong, proven durable (if you don't park like an old lady), it's light and very functional. Best of all, everywhere I take my Mini, that's the first thing people notice. Personally, I think the other version that's as thick as hocky puck is just unecessary bulk/weight...my 02:smile:

Fair points. I've only had it on the car for a weekend, and it looks fabulous. It's not heavy and the turnbuckes work well. I added larger washers though.

I just wish it was CF all the way through. As well, I had to mount it differently than it appeared planned, because none of the holes lined up with the bumper fastener holes. They were all a quarter inch off, except one. Just enough to not be able to drill a new hole in the splitter to match, but far enough to not be able to use the hole drilled.

MSFITOY, I will PM you, because I have some questions.....

For starters, remove the facia and turn it upside down instead of trying to mount it laying on your back:smile:

The set I that I installed two years ago had three mounting bolts spaced evenly apart. I added two more (SS) in between each for a total of five which made it even stiffer. You can get SS bolts/washers at any good harware store. I also sandwiched the standoff mounts with a pair of SS washers so the facia is less likely to get damaged. Finally, use locktite on the locking nuts at all points. In my opinion, this splitter has the proper balance of depth versus function for the Mini's front end. Mine still looks new:smile:

What exactly is the function of a splitter? Is there something that it does that makes the MINI perform better in some aspect?

It's supposed to add front downforce and aid in traction.

At higher speeds, it's intent is to help give the front end of the car a bit more "bite", or grip, stability, etc.

The splitter was preceeded by the good old airdamn. However, it is more efficient and produces less drag than the former. The high pressure air at the bumper's lower edge is split allowing one layer to flow under the car. The top layer collects above the splitter, forcing air over/around the hood/bumper, thereby creating downforce against the splitter. The deeper the splitter, the greater the downforce. The primary function of the standoffs is to carry the load of that high pressure air and not necessarily for adjustment of AOA. The M7's splitter, when mounted properly will have a slight dihedral at both ends adding more ridgidity and is then self aligned towards the wind

As far as I know, this splitter was designed specifically for the standard S facia. I don't think it would fit the Aero facia's lower contours. But as my wife often reminds me...I could be wrong
