Hardwire Radar Detector in 05 MCS

I've searched the threads but the ones that discuss installation of a radar detector are older. How have you mounted and powered your detector in your 05? I have the sunroof so is that the best place to tap into the power?

If you have any tips and pictures of the install, that would be great.

Thanks,

What kind of radar detector are you running, the V1 has a pretty nice kit and its fairly easy to wire it tothe fuse box.

Hardwired radar detector

Thanks for the link. That seems to have what I need.

As for what type of detector do I have? None yet. Looks like the V1 and the Passport 8500 are the top picks.

Decisions, decisions.

I had escort 8500 and if I had to buy a new radar detector, I'd go with the valentine.. It's more expensive, but those arrows are well worth it.

I LOVE the arrows but Valentine falses a lot. I just returned from a 2000 mile road trip and could only positively identify the source of about one third of the warnings. Two thirds of those were stationary "Your speed is" signs. At one point, in the desert, in bright daylight with NO sign of any human activity, no cars to the horizon in front of me, no signs of habitation, the V-1 indicated, one, two, three then 4,5,6,7 readings ahead of me, of course I slowed to the speed limit thinking it was a highway patrol convention. The warnings got louder and louder and then all stopped at once (and did not show up behind). I never saw anything that would indicate a radar source.

I LOVE my 8500! I bought a blue one to match the woman's new Beetle too. I hardwired both. Mine, I have double taped rock-solid on the dash near the left, just to the right of the round side window vent. Hers, right above the mirror on the left (not enough depth on the mini). The dash location on the Mini luckily clears all obstructions and works great! I bought direct wire cables for like $5 on ebay, and simply ran the wire to the fuse box. I used a $6 add-a-fuse from the auto store and a spare fuse for it. I believe I went to the heated seat circuits on both cars, for a switch power supply.
