New gauge package?

Has anyone seen this? Installed it? I think it looks pretty nice in the picture, but I'd like to find out more.

However, my question is why does it have a voltmeter? Give me an oil pressure or oil temperature gauge over a voltmeter any day.

Hey, not bad. I agree on the voltmeter. I wonder how the installation of the boost gauge compares to some of the aftermarket gauges?

I saw this pack when I was at their dealership on monday. It looks pretty high quality. I also loke the fact that it matches the color with the steering wheel surround, makes it look like it belongs there. I'll have to snap some pics the next time I go

Also, you've gotta ...love the fact that is has Cooper S on it already. Just those little things to make it stand out.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it appears that the gauges are larger than the 2 1/16" gauges that most people use. Something else to check out the next time I'm near a MINI dealer.

Just found this on motoringfile:

Does anybody know if you can get different gauges for this setup?

I will be ordering/getting mine tomorrow so ill do a write up. I guess im the first one. The boost guage reads up to 18 PSI, which is kind of interesting. You can see the three extra little notches that go past the 15 mark. I also saw the manufacturer, it starts with an R, but i cannot remember for sure. Will have a review and pics as soon as they go in. I will also try a install procedure. Does anyone know if MINI parts come with some sort of instructions?

MINI's instructions are found on the TIS data base. If the instructions are not included, the dealer you buy the gauges from should be able to print a copy of the directions for you.

And worse comes to worse, there are a ton of write-ups on NAM that have DIY instructions for guages.

I much prefer a boost gauge to go negative as well. Those are also not available in chrome, or with the chrono or nav :(

I could be wrong, since it's not the greatest picture in the world, but it looks to me like the scale is -30 to +15 with zero being straight up.

Can't help with your other issues...

I would like water temp and oil pressure. I can stop if water temp goes too high or oil pressure goes too low, but, what can I do if boost goes up or down??

This is only the second car I ever had with a supercharger and I guess I just don't know the value of a boost guage.

Earl,

I've never had a car with a boost gauge nor do I pretend to know exactly the benefit they provide but it would seem that by having one in place, you could monitor your blower while driving to make sure you don't develop boost leaks or other problems. It also allows you to see the effect of mods like a supercharger pulley. As a side benefit (the only real reason i want one) As you bang through the gears you get to watch the needle dance. It might just be me but the more gauges i have going up and down and up again while I drive, the happier i am (its a cool factor thing)

A boost gauge is also slightly useful as a diagnostic tool, as you can check the vacuum level as well as boost. I put a gauge on my boosted miata, and it actually came in handy identifying belt slip at high RPMs. That probably wouldn't happen with the MINI due to the tension arm.
But mostly it's just fun to watch the needle (carefully, out of the corner of your eye, 'cause when it's at its peak you should really be watching the road!)

I haven't added any gauges yet, but I thought about this plan. Mount an oil pressure and an oil temperature gauge in the cluster around the tachometer for me to keep track of vital issues.

Then, in the factory panel that goes between the down tubes, mount a boost gauge and an air/fuel meter. That way, the swinging boost gauge needle and moving LEDs on the air/fuel meter could keep the passenger distracted and entertained.

Thanks for the better pictures. What size are the gauges? 52mm, 60mm, other?

Also, does the mounting pod have a part number on it? I wonder if it is available separately, like the center console gauge panel is...

I dont know the guage size

No part number on the mounting pod, not even in the instructions. It doesn't look MINI quality, but it is sturdy.

edit: when I meant "MINI quality", I just mean that usually their plastic parts are a little thicker, this one seems "thin" but I think it's just to fit it on the steering column without adding bulk.
