Template for Mirror Caps?

Does anyone by any chance have (or know where to get) a template to mark where to cut the hole in the Gen3 mirror caps to accommodate the MINI LED projector lamp?

I took off the standard black caps on my 2017 JCW and replaced them with OEM JCW Pro caps (which look awesome!) but I can't figure out the best way to cut the hole in the bottom of the driver side cap to accommodate the projector light.

Thanks

I had the same dilemma. The cap should have a little oval indentation on the left (driver side) mirror cap. Just use a sharp exacto knife and cut out the shape. Take your time and go slow. Start with a smaller than necessary hole until you get the feel for the material. Then work up to a larger hole ending in the correct size. Once you get it cut out, put the cap on and it should be fine.

i had read that somewhere so I looked for the oval but it wasn’t there.

That is strange. Can you verify you have the correct parts? Are they genuine mini parts from a reputable source or....?

I did---purchased them from a dealer, in original boxes.

Maybe take it back and see if they have another one you can inspect (trade it for). Seems maybe it's defective or a part for a mini without the "excitement package" with the mirror projector.

Too late- it's on the car. I will have to forego the light until I can find someone with a template....or figure out how to make one

If your caps don't have the hole on the inner layer, then you will likely have to make your own template. I was all ready to make my own out of painter's tape until I pulled the checkered caps out of the box and let out a huge sigh of relief. I ended up using one of my little carbide cutters in my Dremel tool to carve out the outer laminate, felt I could get a better curved cut with that. Here is a link over to my pics I posted in another thread here:

Second pic shows the hole in the inner housing and the solid outer laminate.

Exactly what I did. But the MAPC is saying he doesn't have that hole. I'd return the caps and have the dealer make sure the new ones have the proper hole present. I bet it's something stupid like he has a US passenger cap and a UK passenger cap. Both won't have the hole.

I just bought a new-to-me 2016 F56 MINI. It has the Excitement Package, and came with the JCW mirror caps (installed by the previous owner?).

There is no hole in the drive cap for a projector light. Should there be?

Mine had the indent in it, so I drilled a small hole then enlarged it little by little with the small dremel sanding band.

Well, to answer my own question, I went and removed (pulled off) the driver's side JCW mirror cap.

Bad news is that even though I have the MINI Excitement Package, I don't have the LED projector.

Good news is that if I had, there is a partial hole on the inside of the JCW cap, similar to what @bluonyx shows in his first pic in his post directly above.

Voila

Odd that yours doesn't have the projector light if you have Excitement package.
Also odd that my JCW caps don't have the indent.

Anyway, I created a template with painters' tape, marked the spot on the new cap and cut it out with a Dremel

VOILA

Depends on the year. My 2015 MCS has them under the door. Replaced my caps with some new ones and they had the holes which I filled.

My 2017 MCS with excitement package has puddle projectors in the door handles, and bottom of the doors!! Not mirrors.

That sounds closer to what I have, though I thought the lights in the door handles were to simply light up the door handle.

Anyway, my thanks to all in confirming that I am not suppose to have the driver's mirror light. I was concerned for a while there, that the previous owner, when installing the JCW mirror caps, simply tossed the projector light into the garbage than deal with drilling the hole.
