I want to get a quick release set up on my r53 but I was wondering if i could fit a steering wheel adapter hub from another car for cheaper?

Get an OMP steering hub for the 02-06MINI & fit a Tekniq Snap Off quick release system. Take note of the 2 airbag resistors needed to prevent your SRS lights from turning on.

I was thinking about doing that as well. Is there a guide on how to handle airbag sensors?

Thread resurrection!

minisanity, which OMP hub do you recommend? I've heard OD/1960BM784A, but it's an absolute pain to find...

I've also heard good things about the Works Bell, but holy expensive and I'm not sure where to get one.

What is the easiest way to do this mod without a quick release? Thanks!

Thom

OMPOD/1960BM784A (19J04) is a direct fit. No need of quick release. Just need to drill a 5/16" hole where the turn signal auto cancel tab inserts into. Some just cut that plastic tab without having to drill. I'm not sure if they retained the auto cancel feature. Read my thread in the link above. It's pretty straight up.

Thanks! Just got the part ordered from the UK, since apparently no retailers in the US carry it. Expecting it on Jan 5th!

Thanks again minsanity.

Grats! What wheel are you planning? OMP, Momo, Sparco should have the same bolt pattern. If you're going Nardi or Luisi, you'll need a universal bolt adapter/spacer.

I was able to snags preowned OMP Superturismo for $106 off eBay! Don't have any actual photos off my phone and I'm at work currently, but here it is off of OMP's website.

Pretty good steal on my part, if I do say so myself. :D

Minsanity, what if I do want to use quick release? Is it the same part?

I bought it from YBRacing.com, however their PayPal thing wasn't working so I found it via the OMP part number on eBay and it turned out to be the same company (shipped from the UK and all).

Just go to YBRacing.com and search for OD/1960BM784A.

Same idea if you need to search on eBay.

Add the chosen quick release to that same hub.
