Dot Matrix + Tint Issue

Hey everyone!

I know this has been discussed before, but I haven't found recent posts on the dot matrix and tint issue, i.e. the tint not sticking properly against the matrix on the back side and rear windows.

Should I consider asking my tint guy to redo the job on my car, considering that I have a lifetime warranty, and the fact that I find the overall aesthetic not that great?

And lastly, I'm experiencing what I think is called "Night Time Defogger Distortion". I see it when a car is behind me with its headlights on at night. It's not really a glare, it just looks like halos or something... like blurred vision... It's getting better with time, but it's still not perfect.

Got my tint installed 3 weeks ago.

Any input would be most welcome!

Thanks!

That looks about right. There really is no way to get the tint to completely conform to the raised and recessed areas in the dot matrix section, unless they cut it short so it ends before that area. Then, you'd have bright light coming in from the gaps between the dots, and it wouldn't look right either.

If you recently had the tint job done, it can be a bit "milky" for a couple of weeks, which may explain the haze you are describing. After the tinting cures, that will go away.

I've definitely seen worse. That looks about right as ASK said. I wouldn't raise a stink about it.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys!

Guess I'm being picky, but at $300, it was not a cheap job. Also, I recently saw a MCS at my delearship, which had a tint job done by the same company I used (only it was done at a different location), and the result was perfect, i.e. tint had fully stuck to the matrix. Knowing it's possible is kinda frustrating...

its usually hit or miss, sometimes it will be spot on and sometimes it will not be. If it bothers you I would go ahead and contact them

Thanks again for your input!

Think I might contact the shop... Do you know if there's a specific preparation they need to do for that area of the windows in order to ensure optimal adherence? Like sand the area a little bit, clean it with a special product?

My tint guy told me to come back in a week or two (or maybe it was 3 day, don't remember) and he could make it nearly seamless. It involved pressing the tint to the window with the right amount of pressure and moving the whole time without stopping.

Sorry about thread revival...

I had dot matrix on a previous car and I had the shop put black vinyl over the dotted area and then tint the rest as normal. Looked great and achieves precisely what we all want in a tint job.
