Custom Steering Wheel Inserts

So the black rubber-like coating was coming off the bottom steering wheel insert, and I had purchased a steering wheel with red stitching, so I decided to remove all 3 inserts, sand and paint them. Here is the result. By the way, the exterior color is chili red. I will probably change the shift and e-brake boots to red leather next.Name: SW2_zpsbf467e14.jpg

Great way to be done with all that peeling. I think you did a great job but I think you should really consider adding a nice coat of gloss clearcoat. The gloss shine really makes the interior sing, kind of like when done on the door panels and dash trim.

Just so you know what I mean here is orangecrush's almost MINI

How did you remove the inserts? I want to do this, but am contemplating using plastidip instead of paint.

It's a piece of cake if you take the airbag off. There are a few DIYs on here.

I understand the airbag isn't too difficult, but is it a necessity? Some people avoid messing with airbags like they are the plague.
