VEI V1 Remote Display

Anyone have one of these?

They fit in a 52mm gauge pod.

I now realize just how sick I am.

Because that is perhaps the sexiest thing I have EVER seen. Ever.

Needs multi-color LEDs... but otherwise that is a thing of ultimate beauty.

That was my thought as well!

The text, L KA F X Front Rear Mid aren't on the gauge. Just the lights. Can get it in a black housing instead of the silver also.

I think I'd rather have the display in the rear view...

Short video of it.

Install instructions. Looks like it has a wire for illumination and for a remote mute switch. It has a button on the face for mute too. They offer it in red, blue, and orange display colors.
Instructions-VRD-M.pdf

I have the V1 mounted above the mirror so a mirror display wouldn't be of any use since it's only an inch or so away from the V1 display.

I'm probably going to get one of these in black and pair it with a Aeroforce Interceptor gauge to replace my Scangauge II. Does nearly everything the Scangauge does (plus boost) but in a round dual display all through the OBDII port.

Attachment 49569

These should look good together.

Been eye-ing that for a while now. Finally took the plunge and ordered a V1. The VEI remote display seems to be one of the simplest/cleanest remote displays. My only thought is if the Orange color matches the factory amber well.

I was under the impression that there was an Orange color option along with Red and Blue for the V1 display.

They have an orange model. Color looks like this (not actual V1 gauge).

I'll be ordering one of these with the orange LEDs and black housing soon. I will post a shot of it when I get it in the car.

I picked orange after seeing how the red looked compared to the tach display in this video.

That's actually a sweet mod. I still have my valentine loose on the dash for easy removal. This wants a permanent mounting and a hardwired power to be graceful, to be sure.

It's pretty easy to clip it on the headliner by the mirror using the visor clip that comes with the V1 and fish the power wire down the fuse block. An add-a-fuse powers mine.

Thanks for the photo, looks like it should be a decent match. I'll be ordering one soon as well. Just need to find the OEM Aux gauge holder on the steering column to house it.

According to VEI, the orange was designed to match the newer BMWs (335i, etc). So I suspect it will be fairly close to the Mini's orange.

Another option might be the StealthOne. Although no information if it works with CAN bus cars.

Received this today. The orange lighting matches the dash lighting. Haven't installed it yet so no pictures.

Good to hear the lighting matches, I ordered one last night. Will post pics once it's installed.

Let me know which wire you use for the illumination connection if you plan to use that feature.

Yes, let us know! I'm waiting for my box to show up and Kellen at Craven Speed has already sent the gauge cup for it!

I'm not sure if I'm going to use that feature but I guess I would tap into one of the parking light wires which are apparently black/green (left) and black/blue (right) on the R53.

Hopefully all the parts come in by Wednesday/Thursday so I can have everything installed by the weekend. I'll be sure to post pics of it all.

Well, I have the parts. I had to pull out some sand paper to take down a couple of high spots and it fit right into the gauge cup from Craven Speed. The studs on the back are too short so I'm going to have to figure out something for that but otherwise, it went that far with no problem. Just did the install and it was just about as easy as anything I've ever done. I didn't wire up any lights yet and after seeing it, I don't know if I will...

Here are a couple of pictures with and without a flash. The brightness is set at 1 (of 9) otherwise, I think I could drive by the brightness of the light.

That looks good. I filed down one of those set screws in the gauge itself to make it fit the Cravenspeed pod. The thread size on the studs are 6/32. You can unscrew them and use long screws or longer studs. Just don't over tighten them. They have a stop inside the gauge but it's not very robust.

You must have gotten the silver/chrome trim ring. My gauge is all black. I'm getting the Aeroforce Interceptor gauge to replace my Scanguage, which is also all black. The two match well together. I'll post pictures once I'm done installing them (probably next week).

Great info! I'll take a look at those studs and make the change so I can secure the gauge in the cup. I had to sand down both of the guages set screws to get it in the cup but that took all of about 45 seconds. I actually ordered the black guage as well but chrome arrived in the mail. No biggie, I can fix that. I'm impressed with the device itself and it's really cleaned up the install.

I swapped a PM with Kellen at CS and he said they dropped the set screws in the guage cup to keep them looking "cleaner" and I can understand that. The metal backplate and studs going through it should be more than enough to keep the guage from turning in the cup. Of course, the studs are spaced differently than the pre-drilled holes in theh backing plate but again, that's a 2 minute fix.

Looking forward to your pics!

my car went in for some more additions today and my V1 is one so this is a nice post for me. but i was hoping that someone who has done the leg work could post a few links like for the Aeroforce Interceptor gauge (didnt find for the mini or in black but for the one i did fing set for other vehicles, does it clear codes?), the V1 gauge (also couldn't find in black casing) and the craven speed pod holders to fit one on each side, in one post that are mentioned in this thread.. if that's possible that would be a big

this has my wheels turning already that's for sure..
