The bulbs are accessible from the exterior by carefully preying from the edge with a flat head screw driver.

I don't know the part # for the bulb, but they are mid-size tube type bulbs available at most auto parts store..

Beaware that in California that is illegal and a sure way to get yourself pulled over. i use to have blue lights on my other car and was pulled over all the time. Refer to CHP site for additional info. Just a FYI, not a PSA.... I think it would look great, but I dont like having to start any conversation with...."Good evening Officer....."

Don't know about replacement bulbs but on the subject of license plate lights, I had seen a post a while back where the user blacked out the outside ends of the lense. The lights light up the whole plate area to accomodate Euro plates. Since we only need the middle lighted, he/she blacked out the overspill. I tried it with just my hands and it's a huge difference. I'd like to try it myself with something somewhat mroe permanent than my hands but haven't gotten to it. Might want to black it out from the inside, if it doesn't get too hot in there.

Hey Kool,

I have replaced mine with blue bulbs about a year ago. Even did the front blinkers and side repeaters, and Florida is just as bad as Cali when it comes to cops. I found a product at Autozone that is a sleeve of blue film that slides over the bulb. Comes in different colors and looks sweet. I'll show you at the Dragon. Remind me. See you soon.

just 1 thing to be careful.
make sure u get the factory power rating for those bulbs (which is 5w from my memory) otherwise if u get something like 10w u will be melting those plastic on top of the bulbs (duno how to describe)
i myself have experienced that myself with a 10w bulbs after using it for about an hour (took it off after that, i know its stupid to use someting twice as powerful )
just my 2cents.
